"Tonight is very difficult to explain this defeat. Because in the first half I didn't have a lot to complain about with my players because of their will and desire. Their will to fight, be aggressive and fight in the first half.
"We scored in the second half and I think we deserved much more from this game. But we have to know when we play against this type of team, a top match, a top game, we have to have motivation. I can't complain about my players. I go to my house satisfied for the performance and the chances we created.

"Honestly, we are managing with many injuries, half and half. It is good to have this type of performance because we know we have to fight until the end to do well but it's a pity tonight. I repeat about the performance, I am really happy for what I have seen. Our fans despite the defeat, they have to enjoy the game for the will, the desire, for how we played the game.

"We had the possibility to put pressure onto Liverpool and we did. We tried to press and then a long ball comes in and we concede the second goal. We did well with the game plan that we prepared but now we are talking about a bad defeat. I don't know if it's positive to win badly or to lose playing well but we lost the game."

    I agree Antonio.

Attempts on goal are not kick counts...if you do not have an attempt you can't score.

Like I said.. we will have to agree to disagree.

Was it an attempt when Sessegnon was pushed over? It's ridiculos to count shots and offer that as an argument for whether a team is playing well. What matters is how many times they are creating potential attacks on goal. The ball flies across the area Kane misses by inches and it doesn't count. But that's how you score goals and win games. Somedays they connect other days they dont. In Marseille we did not create those posibilities. Anyway my mate Conte agrees so ya boo sucks!

He would in this system for sure. Everyone knows he’s woeful defensively but with a back three in support and one or two CMs sitting, he’d have licence to get forward and be a real threat.

I’ve said in the past that I think he’d make a very good creative midfielder too, his passing range is probably only bettered by de Bruyne and Eriksen in the league, possibly Kane too. Feels like he’s slightly wasted as a RB, especially as he can’t actually defend.

Plenty of people Twitter and Reddit (and here...) are content to blame the WBs for everything

The reality of our setup is that our pivot needs to manage games better, especially in the phases where we're giving up possession to try and set the trap, but as soon as our opponents press our midfield our pivot disappears from matches and that's where the issue lies

And this is also what baffles me, because the Bentancur/Hojbjerg pivot could control matches in last season's run-in with the exact same WBs on their flanks, so there's a tactical tweak in there somewhere which isn't working. Sometimes it's obviously down to where players are positioned (i.e. Kane playing as an out-and-out CF and losing his passing from the middle third, Richarlison starting over Deki as a RW, Skipp starting in a midfield three but playing as a RW) but more often than not it seems to boil down to being overly cautious such as sitting that little bit too deep, taking two or three more passes than we need to, and various other aspects of our play that demonstrate we respond to somebody missing up top by retreating deeper into our own half

In fairness I don't blame our Sessegnon and Royal for everything...just their inability to accurately cross the ball, their ability to get out muscled, their inability to defend, their ability to lose the man their marking and their inability to accurately pass the ball.

Tbf if the ref had reffed it properly you’d probably have been down to 10 men in the first half. 4 pull backs, 2 from Perisic that were clear yellows that weren’t given. That set the tone for the rest of the game.

We beat Wolves playing awful stuff.
    We went for it today.

Which is preferred? For entertainment I preferred today. For points on the board I prefer the Wolves result.

    Red tinted glasses.
Of course, Liverpool didn't deserve any yellow cards.

From my perspective I couldn’t work out quite why was so much space out wide. It seemed like royal didn’t know if he should push onto robbo, or hold back and cover the space on Nunez.

instead he seemed to be in the middle of no where so robbo could get the ball and was acres for Nunez to run into down that side. Should dier have been starting wider to cover that space?

Was that poor tactically by conte or royal not playing well and picking a correct position to play in?

Did seem like the game plan was keep it 0-0 for 70 mins then throw on moura and kulusevski to try Nick a goal. Not awful tactic against us normally tbf, but given our issues this season, would have thought going at us would be better.

I get you guys have injuries to son, richarlison, kulusevski. But don’t you have any youth players that could potentially play in a forwsrd position so can keep the same tactics? Rather than playing 6 defenders and 3 central midfielders?

We had same issue 2 years ago with no defenders and klopp ****ed it moving our whole team around and was only when went into under 23s and got Phillips and Williams (actual centre backs) into the team that we looked somewhat normal again.

Did I say that? Nunez handball was a clear yellow in any normal game. But given a ref wasn’t dishing them out for clear pull backs when players had got goal side, he set the tone that it’s going to take a lot to get a yellow. As shown by the card count.

That was a bullshit game. Hit the woodwork twice and should have had at least one of the two pens. The dynamic between the halves exists but we were more than good enough in the second half to get a point or even win.
