I get the frustration with the refereeing decisions but the truth is they are not the reasons we lost to Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal or United. Individual mistakes (Hugo v Arsenal, Emerson v Arsenal, Hugo v Newcastle and Dier v Liverpool) and atrocious first halves where we have had 3-5 attempts while giving goals away are the reasons. We got away with it v Marseille and Bournemouth but as soon as we are against semi decent teams we are coming unstuck. Liverpool have not won away all season and lost away to forest last time they played away. We allowed them to settle and put us under pressure and then gave them a goal. We had just 3 attempts in the first half. These are the reasons we lost along with constantly starting Sessegnon and Royal. Conte and the players need to take a long look at themselves imho
Spurs won the second half 1 - Nil. If the league was based solely on second half results, I guess we'll be top. Extremely unlucky not to get something out of this game today.
We created 3 chances in the first half...football is not about hoping the ref gives us a decision its about taking the game to the opposition. I repeat...three attempts in the first half. That is not taking the game to them, it is simply embarrassing. They ain't won away ALL season and lost away to forest last time they played away. That was no different to the Marseille game imho...apart from the fact we created more chances against Marseille in total. The only positive to me was that Kulusevski was back and Bissouma looks like he's fitting in. Sessegnon and Royal need to be binned but no doubt they'll start next week too.
And he took Bissouma off when he could’ve taken off a CB. As for the two WBs, it’s legitimately insanity - trying the same thing over and over again and hoping for different results. He subs them off in so many games because they’ve been ****ing woeful yet gives them more and more chances. Just ridiculous. Doherty and Spence should slap in transfer requests, as should Gil. They’re being massively disrespected. Mind you, so are we fans for having to watch these bullshit first halves and selections.
I agree with many of your points, but I still feel that they weren't any better than us today and we deserved something from the game, I am as frustrated as you are about some of these things that keep happening, but I don't feel as bad about that defeat as I did after the goons and utd games because we didn't compete in those, today we were competitive and I really feel that we shouldn't have lost.
If Conte picks Emerson again… I’m in the Conte out camp. Must be insane to keep making the same mistake over, and over and over, and over again.
I would also just to add that if anyone watched that match and thought that TAA should go the world cup as defender then they need their head testing, he is an appalling defender.
In a game of 94 minutes I'd agree that they were no better than us and we should've got something from it. But we were poor in the first half and allowed them to basically dominate and gain confidence. I have little doubt that if we had started the game with the same attitude we started the 2nd half, then there would have been a very different outcome. But we say that virtually every game. And continuing to play Emerson when there are options is the definition of insanity.
In future can the opposition kick off at 16.30 and Tottenham will start around 17.30 after tea and biscuits at half time , I do not believe Conte tells them to play like they do at the start of every game , something is not getting through to the team
We created more than that in the first half. If you think that was similar to the Marseille game then one of us is blind. For me this was a far better game than most we have played this season but this referee, whoever he was, denied us a penalty, a free kick just outside the area and took no account of the sub made by Liverpool in extra time. All of these decisions could have changed the result of a game in which IMO we were the better side. Liverpool resorted to pulling shirts and pushing players over IN THE FIRST HALF as well as the second half. I wonder why?
And this is where the talk of saying we're not tactically letting teams have a run from the first half comes unstuck. So many matches lately have seen us have a strong opening 10-15 minutes and then sit back, waiting for opponents to tire themselves out - and inevitably something goes wrong and we wind up 1-0 down, meaning we're having to put in twice the effort in the second half Blaming the WBs for that is scapegoatism of the worst kind, because we're surrendering games in the centre of the park and need our pivot to be mopping up better than they are
Sorry spurf, but we did have 3 attempts in the first half ... I checked the stats at half time. Guess we just have to agree to disagree.
