Stats are only part of it though, the eye test is more important. Stats help narrow down potential transfer targets but then you have to watch them to decide whether they are good. For example i watched a player 2 weeks a go who had great passing stats but then i watched him and every pass was backwards and he took extra touches before playing passes which slowed every single attack down I wouldnt go off stats to judge whether a player has been good or not as stats dont tell you everything
I think it was the right decision to change it as we were shocking on Wednesday and only started to play better once Ba and Neil came on - i agree i would have started pritchard after him scoring. The biggest issue for me wasnt the starting line up it was not making the changes at HT when it clearly wasnt working.
Absolutely. That's when a manager earns his crust. Mowbray failed and we paid the price with a defeat. You won't get that lucky in most games, getting in at 0-0 was a robbery and I would have expected any competent manager to build on this and make the changes to ensure it didn't repeat itself.
I'm a fan of TM and imo calls from some for his sacking are just pathetic. But I think he got it all wrong with 4 changes. I don't think Amad or Ba should be starting games just yet. It seemed the players didn't know what to do. Dan Neill was so poor it looked as if he'd never seen a football. Anyhow it happens, it's a very competitive league and it's about consistency....just look at the results yesterday, if you're not at 100% on your game defeats happen, having said all that we weren't far away from nicking a point despite playing so badly.
Absolutely. I was shocked he didn’t change it at HT and was annoyed he made the obvious changes after waiting for them to score, I was annoyed because a brave manager could have made a midfield substitution justifiably after 25-30 mins yesterday it was that obvious what the issues were. All on Mowbray that yesterday I think.
Disagree about Amad and Ba. Amad particularly as he’s been excellent recently. Ba, whenever he’s come in, has looked such a good player. I think it was the Ba/Neil which was the problem personally. I like Neil, but It’s him or Ba alongside Evans for me. Evans, imo, is pivotal. as for the bit I bolded, don’t talk silly man, there’s optimism in that part, you’re not allowed that!!
After 4 years in League 1 i reckon we're doing OK. Performances like that can happen, but let's not have too many of them.
Agree completely. Not sure what people want or expect. As you say, after 4 years in league 1!! Similar side too playing at a higher level. on the other side of that, talked to a couple of people I know who are Cardiff fans, that is probably the best they’ve played all season. They haven’t seen their team work as hard or look as “at it” as they did yesterday.
Just seeing Sam Greenwood ripping it up for Leeds. Wish Donald didn't boot him out for 130k. Great lad and serious talent.
It doesn't tell you everything no, but I often find it's the case that players who get the harshest criticism are doing great statistically. For me that means the (strong) criticism is unjustified. As I've said before I'm dubious about the eye test. Some people are routinely adamant that they're right but it's hard to agree when the stats directly contradict their opinion.
I think TM went for it yesterday. Simms in and try to wrap the game up by getting at them. We were overrun in midfield It was like 4-2-4 and unfortunately it did not come off. As has already been stated by others it needed changing at HT. Once again apart from the other night why are we utter utter crap in the 1st few mins of the 2nd half. I would imagine we have conceded more than any other team in the division first 5 or 10 mins of a second half.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion though, doesnt make them wrong no matter what the stats say. I was chatting to the chief scout or a european team a few months ago and the feedback he gives to his scouts is 'no one can tell you your opinion is wrong, you just have to explain your opinion'. Its so true as me and you could watch a game and have total different opinions on a players performance but could both justify why we thought the way we did.
Im sure i read somewhere that it was even less than that. Its sickening that we lost him, pye, stephenson and hugil for approx 600k combined
