That was a correct decision, unless the offside rule has changed yet again. He originally went for it, and the defender moved across to try and get goalside, which gave Doc more space. It was only when Smith realised Doc was there he stopped but he’d already made an impact.
Still less damage than the bare faced liar Steve Bruce claimed Alan Hutton received from that absolute non headbutt by Altidore.
In German that means pussy (I don't mean a cat). Expect giggles if you ask for mushy peas in Germany (or Austria or 80% of Switzerland).
I dont know why we do that. I know the theory is to stretch the opponents but it only works if we play it all the way up the pitch passing around among the defenders and goalkeeper only risks conceding a goal we end up hoofing the ball up the pitch or losing it in midfield anyway
With the Oscar red, it's just one of those grey areas in football where you never quite know what's allowed and what isn't, or what's safe and what's isn't. 9 times out of 10 nobody will be harmed and nobody will get booked for it, but every so often someone going for the header gets caught and sometimes there's a red that's deemed harsh. Cresswell was brave going for it when he could see Oscar trying to trap it with his foot. He'd be criticised if he let Oscar do it unchallenged but he was obviously risking a blow to the head. Football unfortunately puts people in those situations sometimes, it's a flaw of the game, the rules of the aerial side of the game just aren't universally safe. You can argue all night about whether it's right or wrong but the only reality is that it isn't black and white, it'll sometimes be given as a red and sometimes not. It doesn't surprise me at all that it would go against an away player at The Den though. They got an absurd penalty when we played there in 2019, it happens at certain grounds. I would very much like for us to start getting favourable decisions at our own ground like some teams do. Watching us at home lately always feels like being away at Old Trafford in terms of decisions. I wish we'd get on referees backs as much as we get on our own players backs for passing sideways, I think it'd make a difference.
Rather live in London that Hull on similar sort of terms. He'd probably have stayed if we'd polished his knob but he's a professional for hire not a city fan. Or Milwall fan either for that matter - but they perhaps fund a lifestyle we couldn't provide in Hull, All things being equal Didn't do much today though. Just ran around a lot as usual.
A point from this game is a gift after red card. Btw Dutch number 10 of Milwall, Flemming, seems to be a very talented lad, don't think he will stick around this league.
That from start to finish was a much better performance made even better by the fact we went down to 10 men for an hour. Even though at times we were a bit under the cosh, I never got the feeling of dread that we would concede. Liam in 2 days has finally got the defence looking more organised, and attacking the ball on crosses and set pieces, rather than just trying to block player runs. We handled their crosses comfortably all afternoon and it was a pleasure to watch. Seri was excellent, his calmness on the ball in tight situations is so pleasing on the eye. Wood's and Slater worked tirelessly, and at times even in the 2nd half we played some nice football. On the sending-off at the time I thought it had to be a red card, but watching it back Oscar was unlucky as he didn't see Cresswell coming, and went up to try and control the ball and caught him with his studs. I can see why the ref gave it, hopefully, they will see sense and make it a one-game ban. Both Christie and Greaves had very good games, Christie had one or two difficult moments against their left winger in the first half, but his teammates covered for him on those occasions. On Twitter before the game I said I would take a boring 0-0 draw, I got a few replies saying it would be a miracle if that happened, so there you go miracles do happen.
He will long enough to go to the Premier league. Championship is the proving ground for the richest league in the world.
