I watched all quiet on the western front (Netflix). I wasn't really impressed. It was a bit ambiguous, for example, only one nation used poison gas, and that was Germany.
Also, all war is terrible of course, but Germany were the aggressors, so difficult to feel much sympathy.
My Grandad was in the British army medical corps in WWI.

Read some accounts of the British victims of poison gas in WW1

I thought 1917 wasn't very good due to inaccuracies.

There's a really good series that may still be on PBS America called The Somme 1916 , From both sides of the Wire .
It's accounts taken from soldiers of both sides in their own diaries .
Some shocking tactics employed by the British army Hierarchy

Not news to me, the Neflix film was right about the attitude of the German Generals, which was similar to the Allied Generals

Watching the Shooter on Netflix. Decent so far after first seven episodes, but a long way to go yet.

We used gas in WW1. Starting with chlorine gas in 1915. Hitler was gassed in 1918 (pity it didn’t finish him off) and was in hospital recovering from it when the end of WW1 came.

Never heard of the allies using chlorine in WW1. Any source?

The Germans first used chlorine gas in 1915. We used it at the Battle Of Loos in 1915. Early uses weren’t successful as it was released from canisters and could blow back. Later chlorine gas and mustard gas was used in shells. The Germans made more use of it than us but we used it.
If you Google British use of gas in WW1 there will be articles on it. Was watching a documentary about it not so long ago where this was discussed. The reason ourselves, and the French didn’t make more use of it was for operational reasons rather than moral ones.

Thanks. I had assumed the Germans in the Netflix film were gassed by there own gas blowing back.
Maybe my sources in the 1980s conveniently failed to mention gas use by the British?.

They may have been gassed by their own gas blowing back if it was the early days before they started using shells. Both sides were caught out by changes in wind direction when using gas from canisters.

I found a lot of info on Wikipedia about gas use by both sides in WW1.
I stand corrected. I have hated the Germans for all of these years, for using poison gas in WW1, unaware that they weren't alone in their guilt. Sorry Germany, although Hitler is another matter.
    Thanks for the correction Cityzen.

Enola Holmes 2 is out to watch on Netflix now. Hull's old town streets and The Guildhall are well showcased throughout and is an enjoyable yarn, and looks to be nailed for a third film.

I watched Enola Holmes 2 this morning, it was interesting to see the Hull locations used to shoot it, but it's all very cheesy.

Shame really, as it's a good cast, let down by the main star.
