I think people are raving about him cos he's looked ok in the last 2 or 3 matches when lots of others have dropped in form ie best of a bad bunch, but he looks a bit of a headless chicken to me. Struggling to see where he fits in with Roberts and Clarke on the wings and Pritchard as the 10. I do know the lot of them need to up the energy levels and play the pressing and moving game we've all seen and enjoyed before. They all look **** scared atm!
13 games for Mowbray, 16 points. Extrapolated over a season that's 56 points which gets you 17th last season. Lower than we'd hope, but not terrible. 11 of those games played without a strirker on the pitch for 90 mins. Mowbray doesn't excite me, but he's a steady enough hand. We'll be fine
Will the club show some ambition in the summer if we stay up? (I’ve got no doubts we will not be relegated) we won’t get far with Mowbray.
Depends what you mean by "ambition". KLD has said countless times that club has to be sustainable and pay for itself. Our recruitment model is to find young talent, develop them and sell them on for a profit. We can only spend what we earn. So, if we sell Stewart and Clarke (for example) in the summer, we then reinvest that £20-30m back in the team and bring in players to take us up another level. Do that over 2-3 years and we are challenging for promotion. The club isn't going to go out and spend £100m next summer and tear up the model
Good! I like the model and believe we’ll make some very good profits in the next couple of years. I’d like a better manager. Mowbray wouldn’t have us challenging, regardless of who we had in the squad.
Not sure how you can say that after 13 games in charge (11 of which have been without a fit striker) given his recent record in this division.
Fair. I know it’s early days and losing Stewart was a huge blow. Let’s see where we stand after the WC and January window.
Everything gets under the microscope after a defeat, particularly when its' a game we all expected to win. **** happens in this league and I think Mowbray is doing a decent job given the injury situation and the fact he didn't recruit a single player in this squad. This division is unforgiving, and even the Messiah Alex Neil has a worse record at Stoke than Mowbray has here
https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1...and-Championship-2022-2023-Sunderland-Cardiff Some interesting stats from today. Amad rated our best outfield player, lots of good passing, most successful dribbles and one of the few players to have a go at goal. Got the most interceptions too. Neil got loads of tackles in, twice as many as the next guy, and got our third best rating after Patterson and Amad. Ba was really bad statistically basically did nothing good in either defence or attack. Back to Neil and Evans for the next game by the look of it.
If you look at the current top 6, we lost to all of the top 4 and drew with the others. Only Burnley beat us convincingly and that was after we dominated the first half. Hopefully we will have Ballard, Alese and Stewart back after the World Cup break. if that's the case then I'm sure we will be fine. We just seem to be so inconsistent especially at home, still not able to win 2 games on the bounce. please log in to view this image
I don't mean this as a negative, more real. There's been some very good respectful post on here today. Great thread. One thing I think we can all be clear on, promotion isn't a must for our ownership, it can't be. A few post up, "self sustainable" has been mentioned, pretty much what was said from the outset, sell to buy. Get a youngster in, hopefully sell at a profit, then it's onto the next youngster. Last time we were in the Championship and got promotion, we spent to get out of it,(Keane season)and after nearly going to the wall, I'm fine with that. But the dizzy heights of the Premier league is somewhat of a pipe dream. Our self sustainable modle means we better all get comfortable in the Championship. Each season Very rich newly relegated from the PL will come into the championship for a season. TV money will help keep them at pretty much PL standard, then back up they go.
I was not keen on dear old Eeyore becoming our manager, but with injuries hampering our strike and defence he has some excuse that it is not all his fault. Speakman has questions to answer as well. I suspect he tried a somewhat experimental line-up today and like Truss's budget it blew up in his face. Let's see if he learnt anything next game (Friday?).
If that is the limit of our ambition and it may well be, we may as well just shut the doors and close the club, what’s the point.
Tried to change too much to soon -why? A settled side who knows their roles and what is expected of them is a better option . Simms should have been used as he has been - as a second half player until he is fully fit . We still need experienced players in the midfield , resting both Evans and Pritchard played in to Cardiff’s hands and they exploited this . We have a lot of talented young players and they need GUIDANCE from the experienced players as they sometimes have a tendency to try to do too much on the ball . Bottom line is bad day at the office for the manager and the players after two good results away from home - yes sometimes the players need a break but be sensible in how you approach this in the future . Birmingham before the World Cup beckons let’s finish part one of the season on a high !!!
I don't look after every game by any means but when I do it's noticeable how players who tend to get the most criticism are some of our best performers. Neil, Amad and O'Nien are good examples.
Big fan of both Cirkin and Neil. Both were poor yday. Stats only show you half the story. Always do. Neil once again thinking he is playing. 5 a side with silly turns in dangerous areas. What's that, 4 times this season that's resulted in a goal or a one on one against ? Cirkin was unusually poor. Touch was off and passing was awful. Everyone was ****e. Only Patterson can keep his head up. Amad in the 10 was a waste of the shirt. Better on the wing.
I get that players have played a lot of games, but we are 2 fixtures away from a 4 week break I am pretty sure the players who may be slightly more tired could and should have played the 2 remaining games. Absolute clown decision to change a side that's just won their last game let alone Pritchard who would have been on a high from scoring the precious game.
