Vyner hopelessly out of position again and Max bails him out again. Shocking by Vyner and he is our weakness.
The whole shape looks wrong and maybe the positional moves might give us a better chance of holding on.
We’ve to many forwards and not enough defensively minded players on, we need to change personnel imo. Semenyo isn’t a W/B. It’s all well and good having pace for the counter, but you need a solid defensive set up.
4-5 great saves by Max and the post have been our saviour..along with Conway & Pring have been our star players imo.. 1-0 HT.. We need to sort out the defence if we want to get anything from this game..
Half-time player ratings Max O'Leary - 9 Zak Vyner - 6 Timm Klose - 6 Cam Pring - 7 Alex Scott - 7 Matty James - 7 Joe Williams - 7 Andi Weimann - 8 Antoine Semenyo - 6 Nahki Wells - 7 Tommy Conway - 7 (Bristol Post)
Why oh why do we insist on falling back when we are ahead, haven't we learnt that we need to defend further up the pitch to take pressure off the defenders, some of whom are poor when put under the cosh. Tinman has been berating Vyner all game long and his comments about poor positioning and bad tackles have a large amount of truth in them. Max has been a standout in saving us so far and without all of his saves we could be behind by two or three goals. Unless we shape up in the second half we could be in for our usual fate and perhaps, as said earlier, a rugby score could be on the cards.
BT has been going on quite a bit about the fact that Zak is often 10 yards out of place when they attack and has mentioned that Weimann has been sent back to offer some help. That's all very well and good but surely having a player in Vyner's spot that doesn't need help would be better as he is a liability at some point in most games. Holding the ball better in midfield would also be a better strategy rather than allowing our opposition to come at us which always ends up in our danger areas and highlights our deficiencies.
