    See How They Run 7.9/10

    Some quality performances

Sam Rockwell as a dour drunken English detective is as good as ever.

Saoirse Ronan as his quirky sidekick, btw looks like an ex who was fit as fck.

Adrien Brody as funny as he was in Grand Budapest.

It's a good film, I like it, but it's too short and plot isn't developed enough. Could've been a contender.

I'm not sure on this, great cast but just seems silly.

Yeh but you could say the same about Grand Budapest. It's clear this was heavily influenced by it - similar attempt at style but it just wasn't as good.

The dialogue and characters just weren't as sharp. The characters and plot weren't developed enough.

It had the potential to be a much better film in the right hands.

You could say the same but The Grand Budapest Hotel is ****ing brilliant so it wouldn't make any sense. I'm going to skip that one I think. Need a film for tonight though I've got nothing lined up.

There's not much new on anywhere. You should start Andor. It 8 episodes and most are only 40 mins.

Just stop comparing that pile of dung to TGBH. There is no comparison what so ever. It is nothing like TGBH.

I'm a massive fan of Rockwell and thought he could do no wrong.

    Then I watched that film.

Whether it's good or bad, if you can't see the clear influence of TGBH on this film then you're being a tad dumb.

They've tried to copy the style of Wes right down to the dialogue, the interaction of the characters, the colour schemes AND even the overshot of the car drives to the country house is done like the trip at end of TGBH to the alps.

Don't get me wrong it falls far short, but there's no doubt they've tried to do similar film making.

    No no no!

SHTR is a parody of the old 40s and 50s whodunits. It's filmed in that style. It bares more resemblance to Margaret Rutherfords Marple or even Basil Rathbones Holmes than it does Anderson style. I really don't know where you're getting that. TGBH is a fairytale done in a style that befits that. This is a classic whodunit done in the style that befits that. The two are totally different.

You also said that Rockwell put in an excellent performance. I didn't see that either. The poor fellow mumbles his way through most of the movie. He looks like an actor not comfortable with the accent he has to use. It's a shame though because on the few occasions he has more than three words to string together he does fine with the accent.

Unfortunately he has little in the way of good dialogue to play with. I said the film is reminiscent of 50s British noir but the dialogue comes straight out of the three stooges TV show. The "constable, inspector, commissioner " running joke is particularly awful.

If I was comparing it with any recent film it would be knives out. Although even that is far superior to this.

Down where the Crawdads sing is decent. Bullet train is funny. Smile is a good horror.

Films have been pretty dire this year for the most part.

Watch See how they run and see if it reminds you of a Wes Anderson film.

Wanted to see Banshees for the monthly piss up and movie day, but had to settle with Black Adam as none of the others had heard of banshees, or seen any of McDonagh's films (recommend The Guard with Brendon Gleeson & Don Cheadle)
Black Adam was standard super hero fare, 6/10, disppointed with the lack of eyebrow lifting.

7 Psychopaths is a film where Sam Rockwell actually does put in an excellent performance. 3 Billboards as well.

Generally avoid anything with the Rock in it

The Rock in a movie as a superhero no one really gives a **** about

    Never happening

What you're talking about is composition mate - the story. Yeh I know it's a whodunnit and that's the composition. I've not mentioned composition at all, I spoke about the style ffs. You do know the difference between the two? You do realise you can have different composition done in a similar style?

When you say you don't get where I'm getting that from, I literally listed it all in my previous post. Like I said if you can't see the director's attempt to copy that style then you clearly don't appreciate half of TGBH bcos you only seem to value it for the story by the looks of it.

He's a fcking idiot tbph. Likes to put others down when it comes to films just so he can prove to himself he's the big I am.

Same dickhead who's claiming Bullet Train is funny when it's about as bulk standard middle of the road a film you can get with all the tired old cliches and equally **** acting. Half the dialogue is about Thomas the Tank Engine ffs. If it didn't have Brad Pitt no one, and I mean no one, not even fanboy Aldo would watch it.

    Any footy on btw?

Btw watched a film called Harold & Maude yesterday. At the risk of some jock **** with his head up his arse saying otherwise, it's very good.

1970's but hasn't dated at all. Two main characters are a crazy old woman full of life and a kid who's suicidal. Very well made. Can I mention the characters interaction being brilliant, particularly Ruth Gordon who plays the old dear? Is that ok to say? Oh and it's a funny film. That's subjective in case some **** comes on to tell me otherwise.

    Well worth a watch.
