Probably confused after listening to a Jesse team talk.

I'd bet money on it that at least one player walking out of the dressing room or out of a team briefing looks at a colleague and says "what the **** was he on about" and the reply back "I don't know I wasn't listening"

Jesse is American so grew up with NFL and playbooks etc. Problem is football isn't like that and if you continually try to make the same plays then it becomes predictable and easy to counter.

Sometimes our games seem quite dour and very similar in some respects.

Marsch’s press is all guns blazing - he prioritises interval sprints in training I believe. It’s actually a lot more sophisticated than maybe it looks. It’s triggered by the opposition passing the ball. The guy on our team leading the press rushes to the receiver… that’s the signal for others to go towards the receiver but they aren’t looking to tackle they’re blocking passing lanes. The problem with it, is if someone doesn’t do their job it doesn’t work. Hence it takes a long time to drill into a team.

The idea then is if the ball is won… the players in the press are likely unmarked and in good attacking positions - as you say, sometimes they seem too close.

I’m not saying it’s good or bad, just the theory on how it works.

That’s right jamster, he needs to work on his play action fakes on third down. Meantime you need to work on your casual xenophobia and sweeping unfounded generalisations :emoticon-0105-wink:<cheers>

Should guarantee a 0-0. Neither side would leave their half.

In fairness to jammy, when Jesse spouts this crap he stereotypes himself.

We're predictable and at times quite boring to watch.

That's why Fulham wiped the floor with us after the usual first 10 minutes huff & puff.

Also last time I checked Jesse is an American and continually uses phrases associated with American Football, it's not exactly a leap of anyones imagination to think he might quite actually like the sport and it's tactics or use of play books.

    Casual xenophobia my arse <laugh>

So yes you have a point ‘bus parking’ makes for a snappier headline than. ‘How does Jesse make us more effective against sides that set up with a low block and look to hit us on the break.’

That said, for clarity We’re talking about Elland Road - sides have a greater expectation to attack at home. Gerrard unashamedly set villa up to defend and spoil. Said so himself. Only changed because of sending off. Everton set up with low block looking to hit on the break and spoil,

Agree on wolves, it was a game of two halves.

Fulham I’ve only seen highlights of… looked like their chances came on the break. We had 50% more passes than them. But you were there so will know better how it panned out.

Arsenal and Chelsea are being used as the examples of better sides coming to play, so obviously they didn’t.

Not relevant to the discussion really, but as you brought them up. Leicester showed vertically no attacking intent against us. 1 shot on target. Admittedly they had a lead to defend for much of that. Almost All of palaces opportunities came in transition. Southampton wasn’t really a game of two halves. We dominated for 70 minutes and they then took over. And we were the better side at Brentford in my opinion. Just everything that could go wrong did.

Not criticising these sides… it’s a legitimate tactic. Men behind the ball, break quickly when we make a mistake. .

Yep getting men behind the ball when out of possession.

That might catch on one day <cheers>

fact that we’re often dull to watch, doesn’t mean that the coach is barking out plays from his headset on the touch line.

hey, he may be a playbook guy, but you don’t know - you’re joining the dots to belittle Americans in football. You’re right about the casual xenophobia. I retract the casual <laugh>

Marsch was also up against a much better coach and had his tactics wiped out. Marsch instead of flapping his gums should concentrate on getting his tactics and game plan right so we can counter lesser teams.

In that case he is a better coach than top of the table and Pep graduate Arteta, PL and CL winning Klopp and CL winning Tuchel. I'm rather content with that.

<laugh><laugh><laugh> No doubt - But will it be with another novella on why marsch is rubbish and his football will never work. Or another essay on how Jesse’s genius took abc fc to the cleaners.

USA will beat England at the World Cup, or they won't lose anyway. They're a very decent team with 3 or 4 really good players so no one in the Jamster household is belittling Americans in football...but you carry on.

Meanwhile I'll be watching the Breeders Cup tonight and tomorrow from Keeneland whilst singing god bless America <cheers>
