If we,as ordinary people,work off the idea that both the Tories and Labour are a load of liars,and there is no credible alternative due to them protecting their position,and both are saying what they think they need to say in order to gain power,but both have no clue as to how to deliver their assurances,and will change their approach according to their spin doctors read of the public mood,and nothing will really change, does that mean we are ****ed? Evidence in my lifetime suggests so.

In Sunak's upcoming budget there'll be some cost cutting measures to help deal with the recession. DPD will merge with the NHS and help to deliver babies, the BNP will be on border control and NOT606 will be in charge of levelling up ... ... the slogan will be 'Let someone else do the work while we think up catchy new slogans.' I criticise whichever Government/Minister/PM is doing things I don't like or making mistakes that affect our lives ... ... criticising anyone else, for what you guess they'd be doing in the circumstances, is pretty pointless imo. It's like blaming Phil Parkinson for our.se ond half against Burnley.
I personally dont think it is pointless, if we are criticising them for not offering a better alternative, or if they cant muster any constructive criticism. If they dont offer a better alternative then what are we supposed to do? Stick with the rubbish we have? I think being critical of the opposition can be very constructive, but only if the opposition are prepared to listen and learn. In that they are the same as the elected party. My understanding is that all MPs are paid for by the taxpayer? Anyone know better? If they are then it seems even more reasonable to criticise if we think they are doing a poor job. The average cost of an MP is over £200k. Johnson cost £178k, Starmer £168k. On the one hand I find it a bit odd the PM costs only £10k more than the leader of the main opposition, to us taxpayers. On the other hand I think both have been hopeless in their respective jobs and criticism is warranted, irrespective of what they cost us. Mind you, us handful of people on this happy forum, passionate as we clearly all are irrespective of differences of opinion, should probably do something more than argue on a message board, as interesting as I find it.
Genuine question: What do you think the opposition CAN do, notwithstanding the fact that they have zero power TO do anything. All power is with the Government.
All I ask is they produce ideas, policies, plans that I think are better than what the government have. That way I can vote for them thinking the country will get better. I would love, personally, to change how I vote each time there is an election because the opposition appear better. It would mean as a country we would be getting better.
They will produce a manifesto IF the government call a general election, which once again, is also entirely within the power of the incumbent government.
I agree. They are also producing policy now though, and talking about what they would do. A lot was discussed at the party conference, and some on their website. My opinion as of now is they seem incoherent, hopefully that changes and they get my floating vote.
On the levelling up topic. Just been reading that the arts council have given all new funding away from London. They were told to do this by the govt. English National Opera leaving London for Manchester is the headline, which is pretty big news really. 24 organisations in total leaving the capital. Organisations previously not receiving govt money now getting it. Bit of a shot in the arm for some I hope.
Having no apparent plan until six weeks before an election has failed twice in a row now. It's the opposition's job to be ready to contest an election starting tomorrow.
