Cartoon on the front of todays Daily Telegraph.....got me smiling. Showing a picture of Guy Fawkes in the cellars of Parliament...surrouded by barrels of gunpowder. Two guards come running up to him......and say to him.....Don't bother, they're blowing themselves up.
If the Conservatives re-install Johnson, it's the end for them. I can't believe there are Tory morons in the Commons who'd back him again. It's got to be Sunak ideally: he was right before the event about the effects of Truss' economics policies but then, that was glaringly obvious to anyone with 2 brain cells. But the City likes him, he worked in the City, and he's calm and assured on TV and in the Commons. Some hold it against him that his resignation finally sank Johnson but firstly that's a positive in my book and secondly the final straw seems to have been Johnson covering up sexual impropriety by one of his mates. If you don't resign with that sort of thing going on, where are your morals? Penny Mordaunt lacks senior cabinet experience: only a couple of months as Defence minister. Her pre-parliamentary career was in PR, which is lying for a living. She's said & done some dodgy things although Johnson sacked her, which is a badge of honour. Suella Braverman evil racist bitch. Kemi Badenoch - wouldn't you just love a black, female PM with dreds? I would. But not this one, too inexperienced and too right wing.
They see Boris... who gave them a huge election win... and the only person who can claim that he has a mandate from the people to be PM.....the others have only a few MP's plus a %age of the membership behind there selection.....the outgoing PM proved that the membership should keep quiet and drink their gin and tonics. Boris has let everyone down.....he had the right plusses....but also the wrong plusses as well.....they have no one capable of turning the huge cock-up that Truss and her then Chancellor created....making millions of people poorer in a blink of an eyelid.....Labour will probably add to the disaster if they're able to get a general election in the next twelve months. I think we should vote in Simon Hallett and Steven Schumacher....they'd probably be an improvement.
The membership of the Conservative party got their votes wrong not once but twice. They voted in Boris and he turned out to be a moraless lying moron who treated the job as more of a joke than anything else. Then they did even worse and voted in Truss who didn't lie but didn't have much of a clue about anything. There is no way that they should decide again for a third time who runs the Country. The UK is not their exclusive toy it belongs to all of us. There should be a General Election without any further delay. This Country deserves nothing less. Boris may have had a mandate at the time of the last election but he singularly blew it and has no right to expect a second go. Where is he now? He is apparently on holiday. This is an elected MP who should be serving the needs of the people in his constituency who elected him not swanning about on a beach somewhere. He is paid to be an MP and they are currently sitting not in recess. The very fact he isn't here tells you everything you need to know about the waste of space. In any other job he would have been sacked without a pension for gross misconduct.
Constitutionally, there is no link whatsoever between a general election victory and anyone except the voter and their local MP. It’s called a parliamentary democracy. Therefore, Johnson had no mandate whatsoever and any responsibility he has to his constituents he’s honoured by ****ing off to the Caribbean during a period of national crisis to stay at the expense of someone who’s going to expect his back to be scratched at sometime in the future. He’s a ****ing disgrace to the nation. The **** didn’t even believe in Brexit until he saw something in it for him. This country is on the brink of disaster, It’s been brought here by Brexit and the resulting dichotomy between Daily Mail yobs and common decency.
I think you should really consider saying what you think notdistant instead of all that wishy washy stuff....... I absolutely agree that MPs are elected locally and a vote for one or another does not mean a vote for the Leader of a party. However I do think that who is leader does have an effect on the way some people vote and there is little doubt that Boris was considered the Mesia by a lot on the back of Brexit. It shouldn't be that way but it is sadly. I was watching the news tonight and have to say that before they started talking about Boris being a possible candidate I hadn't given him any thought in this. But, when they said he was on holiday that rang the usual alarm bells and made me think. How can he be on holiday with all that is going on and why isn't he doing what he is paid to do. Why has the media not picked up on this themselves because I haven't heard a word before today. Yet, people still mention his name as if he could come back and save the country. Are people really that deluded? If they are should some people actually get a vote on anything in the first place and why did people die so that they could have one. That is the trouble with democracy, it allows even the insane to have a say. i
The financial markets hate uncertainty. Can you imagine installing a PM that's still under investigation for lying to the house who might only last a few weeks? He should have done the decent thing and resigned as a MP and given his constituents someone who'd work on their behalf instead of swanning about at the taxpayers' expense. It's clear a section of Tory MP's would resign the whip if he's reinstated. The majority is down to 71: it only takes 36 (1 in 10 of Tory MP's) to leave him unable to form a government. You can say the lies were trivial but a lie is a lie and it wasn't trivial in as far the intention was entirely selfish: to protect his own position. You can say the markets are too powerful but the government needs to borrow to balance its books and British industry needs access to funds too. The "market" includes your pension and mine, your mortgage or that of your kids and our savings. It's no joke.
I've just read that Boris will not be standing in the contest after all. The thing that grabs you about the statement is the bravado to the very end that goes with the statement. He says he could have won the contest once it got out to the Members {appropriate word for them}. He decided not to because it "wasn't the right time" for him and he wanted to act in the interests of the Party. Like anyone would ever believe that Boris considered anyone elses interests but his own in anything. There is no substantiation but he is stating he had enough votes to go through to a run off with Sunak. Apparently even though only 57 are officially known about he had 102. Given he hasn't told the truth about anything in his political career we of course all believe him don't we.
That's a great relief. Sunak is approaching 50% of MP's backing him. If he can over that, I think Mordaunt should withdraw. We can't have members electing someone who doesn't have the backing of MP's again.. at least not while in government and certainly not when the economy has been torn to tatters from the last one they elected.
Weekly visit to Knole Park and Sevenoaks high street today....I happen to notice the headline in the local Sevenoaks Chronicle newspaper. Saying...Millwall FC have been granted permission to build a new training ground on a 50 acre green belt site by Sevenoaks Council. I had to look twice at the headline.....I never thought that I would ever read up-market Sevenoaks and Millwall FC in the same sentence in my whole life......the extremes between them is beyond comprehension. Millwall are trying to up grade their facilities in a push for Premier League football....near the play-offs last season and just outside the play-offs at present this season. I can remember in the late 1950's whilst doing my apprenticeship...spending our lunch hour kicking a football around in nearby Deptford Park...which was less than a mile from Cold Blow Lane and Millwall's Den. In those days they used to quite often train in the park......we would be playing twenty aside games in the cinder chicken wired netted area football pitch.....and quite often they would come and join in once they'd finished their training....I kid you not.....life was rather basic in those days even for a pro-footballer....no cotton wool mamby pamby football idols back in those days. Now their trying to build a state of the art football training ground to match Premier League standards.....of course their new ground....The New Den... is a little further away from Deptford Park....so I asume they had to do something different.
This may have passed you by Plym. https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/football/plymouth-argyle-reach-agreement-over-7437581
Astonishing game down the Valley today. 2-2 at 90 minutes.....which meant Argyle were still top of the league. Then Ipswich scored again....3-2....then they scored a 4th......Ipswich were top of the league My son decided he'd had enough and left.....with many others......then he heard a roar....Charlton had made it 3-4.....he had only gone another 100 yards or so... and heard another roar....he checked his phone and Charlton had equalized...4-4.....Argyle still top of the league, All this happened in added on time.
I was watching the scores today on Sky News as it happened. You could not have written that ending as a script. I turned over at 4 - 2 thinking they had well and truly blown any chance after fighting back previously. To see 4 - 4 come up at the end and for it to be on time plus 9 mins was bizaar.
I find it really amusing that old Mr Hancock has raised so many hackles and been suspended from the Tory Party for signing up for I'm a Celebrity. Double standards ouse from every orifice. I am shocked that nobody has commented on Where was Boris when the Tory leadership contest was announced and Lizzy bit the dust. He was on the beach in Barbados pretending to be a whale who had been beached. This was in fact a holiday being funded no doubt by somebody else whilst this Country was in a financial crisis. Parliament was sitting and he has a Constituency to run and support. Not one comment that the bloater was receiving his salary to represent his people. Somebody please explain the difference between Boris and Matty because I can't see it.
Just getting dressed with the TV news on. It’s Gordon Sparks’ funeral today at Home Park. This coincides with news that under cost pressures imposed on the BBC by the government, local BBC radio services are to be run down with most programming being provided centrally. That’s the end of listening to Argyle match commentaries on the BBC. To me, that’s the wrong as a principle but also the unwarranted cost pressures are being addressed in the wrong way. When a national news story happens down here, what happens? National journalists are dispatched to duplicate the regional coverage from perfectly competent regional correspondents. Why not boost the regional presence and cut the central one? Is that not levelling up? I suppose the bright side is that Argyle will be able to sell more audio passes. The down side is that we have to pay for something we currently get from the licence fee.
Another blow to personal choice today for me. Went to Bromley High Street this afternoon.....I parked in one of the usual side streets as usual....and walked to the parking meter to buy a ticket.....and it wasn't there anymore......I had noticed how many parking spaces seemed to be available....unusual for a street so adjacent to the high street.....Thursday being late night shopping. Drove to another street and again found lots of parking spaces and no parking meter. Eventually found a notice....telling us that parking was now only by phone.....which I've always ignored and preferred to use cash and select my length of time....getting rid of all the small change that accumulates over time. I assume this system will eventually arrive in Orpington....if you haven't got a smart phone tough luck mate. Okay I arrived in the 21st century earlier this year by buying one....only because my old phone was not being supported anymore and became obsolete....It doesn't mean that I'm excited about being forced to park by phone in the future.
Now I'm a self professed technophile but I do object to be forced to pay for car parking online. I put all the change I get from the very few cash transactions I undertake, which amount to little more than the window cleaner (an Argyle season ticket holder) in a fetching cloth bag in the car so I'm always well equipped. The problem is there are so many different car park payment systems that as you travel about, you are constantly having to add new apps - if you have a signal - and a new password you won't be able to remember next time you need it. We went up to Somerset for a Christening in July: arrived comfortably in time although not hours early and were faced with a new system at the council car park behind the church. Faffing around for ages... walk up to the machine cash bag in hand... no cash,,, back to car to get glasses and put cash back... try to read phone screen and scratched and filthy payment macine while wearing driving glasses in bright July sunshine...do we have time to drive back to Plymouth for reading glasses... probably not... download the app... get involved with another group of people also trying to park their car.... give all sorts of account details you'd prefer not to for something you'll probably never use again... name... address... card type... inside leg measurement... input registration number... car type... colour... why can't they look up the car details from the reg,.. it's all online so you can check if your neighbour's car is taxed & insured (bet you didn't know that) or what kind of tyres you need... if every else does that, why can't they and in doing so, save you time & provide valuable cross check of the reg you've put in.... read and accept lengthy disclaimer to protect them if you've put your reg in wrongly... why don't they check it for Chris's sake.... for ....... princely sum of £2.00 all day on a Sunday. Two ****ing pounds. Finally, engage in 10 minute debate why the other half , who'd been "assisting" or as I call it "putting me off" through this lengthy procedure didn't mention she's already got the app on her phone for what is her home town after all.
Parking Saga Mk2. Parked down Orpington High Street this morning in a side road.....Parking meters....hurray.....put in £1.50....and got in return....4 blank tickets....money gone....no sign of a Traffic warden of course. Crossed the road to another meter....looked okay....running short of change....so only put in £1 coin.....got nothing and coin gone.....took the chance of leaving car withouit a ticket and looked further afield for a warden....of course no warden. Why is it when you don't need a warden they're all over your windscreen checking your ticket. Why is it when you want a warden....there isn't one anywhere in the northern hemisphere to talk to. So left car unticketed and found a meter in another road....checked cars parked there for visible tickets....yes ok....so scraped together another £1 and got a PROPER TICKET. So spent £3.50 on 70 minutes of parking....kept my eyes open for a warden as I walked around the high street....but of course none around. I bet there not servicing these meters....BECAUSE THERE DIGGING THEM UP SOON AND HAVING ONLY PHONE PARKING>
Okay just one final parking moan.....sorry to bore you all. My son was around this afternoon and he has set my phone up for parking payments.....Bromley Borough use....RingGo....who charge you an extra 20p for every transaction.....so if you need just a few minutes...you still have to pay the extra 20p. Now if you park elsewhere you will need to set your phone up to whatever system they are using.....you could spend ages putting in all your details...car details...Acc No...etc...it makes you wonder if its time to jump off this mad world. ALSO.....The times I've stood behind someone in the supermarket....who are trawling through their phone trying to find their payment setting.....and they have all their credit cards etc in their phone wallet.....I just wonder if they have their phone stolen (and it happens all the time these days) would their lives completely meltdown and would they end up in the workhouse penniless and emotionally broken.......So much information in one spot to lose....is it really necessary.
