A large part of the problem here was actually created by Theresa May: the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Fifty five per cent of Albanians seeking asylum here (despite there being no obvious reason to flee Albania other than poverty) are granted leave to stay under the 2015 definition. The number of asylum seekers from Albania getting leave to stay in Germany is zero and in France it is two per cent. So why are young Albanian men taking advantage of the disgraceful RNLI illegal immigrant trafficking system in the Channel? Surely not because they can send benefits money (from British taxes) and the proceeds of criminal behaviour over here back to their impoverished families in Albania...

By 2030 the UK has to increase the number of offshore wind turbines four fold. Obviously the Magic Money Tree can afford that as the existing wind turbines have been massively subsidised (the green part of your energy bills). Once we have all that new energy in the North Sea, off our East coast, we will need massive new infrastructure for the National Grid to transport the energy to the South East where much of it is needed. There, of course, will be no NIMBYs objecting to having the necessary new pylons and cabling strung across in sight of their back gardens. Building all this infrastructure will be paid for by the Magic Money Tree and will be done in record time as 2030 is a little over 7 years away and an equivalent amount of infrastructure has only been built in the last 30 years. That productivity boost will be some feat: quadruple the wind turbines and put up the pylons at quadruple the speed. Saint Greta will be delighted. On the days that the wind does not blow, we can use candles because all fossil fuel production will have ceased as windfall taxes will ensure that there is no investment in dirty energy here as we need to do something about our 1 per cent contribution to climate change while China and the developing world continue to burn coal, oil and gas.
