Perhaps arm all the Russian deserters and prisoners with decent western weapons and send them back into Russia to sort Putain and his cronies out?!!!!!!

one has to wonder how many of the deserters / prisoners/ draught opponents / etc have as was reported in the early stages elderly parents/ family /etc who are both Russian and Ukrainian. There was a lot of vitriol between people in Mariipol area who had family friends in the then defending forces who were killed, and many Ukranian / Russian WEDDINGS = children who were like half and half .. and maybe of conscript age in RUSSIA. imagine a conscript bye mum just off to kill granny and grand dad and my cousins in KHARKIV ...................

I have one more day before where daily news is dependant on meeting someone on the mountain trail !
PUTRID seems to have a new theory ... tell them not going to send "mass missile strikes" for now!!! encouraage a sense of "security" whilst he sends in the next lot of canon fodder ! Maybe hoping Ukraine might ease off a bit!
the Wagner mercenaries, reinforced with a few thousand "ex cons" getting their freedom for fighting, allbeit most will be dead in a month or 2 ? and quite a few are! ... already. And will save millions of roubles on their keep in jail, providing they dont go back, but then would have to survive their 6 months .... although Russia conditions are pretty poor, elsewhere costs EU/ GB ETC a few hundred £$ etc a day to keep and feed, in Russsia it is a few hundred £$ a month! or less.............
Erdogan playing with fire! has high hopes that the eastern bloc of euro nations will be glad to have Russian gas via Turkey not Germany! ... most are now getting supplies [ oil/gas ] from outside of OPEC countries so RUSSIA will become a benefactor to places like China and India. Turkey is actually skint!

Yet no one seems to be trying to bring this to an end or give Putin the chance to give in or back away gracefully without losing face
Open and ongoing communication should be encouraged but seems to be off the table
If nothing is done this war could last another 50 years or more

The thing is Russia occupy a large part of Ukraine, they aren’t going to just hand it back. Ukraine on the other hand aren’t going to want to concede it, what would you suggest as a compromise ?

I get this feeling that Putin is losing a bit of control which is being taken over by the generals, which could be even more scary. I am not too sure how much information you get over there, considering everything else that is going on that probably gets more coverage, but the upcoming mid-term elections in the Excited States should get your attention given the current world political climate. If the Republican Party (Trump's lot) gain a majority from this election then they intend to start implementation of plans to basically eliminate the need for a vote because they will put measures in place to nullify any vote against themselves, in other words an autocracy led by King Donald which mirrors several other countries that have gone far right in their dictates. Essentially democracy as we know it will disappear from the American landscape unless the idiotic followers of Trumpism decide in the next few days to change their collective minds to deny the election steal theory.

The insane theories that have been dreamt up by the Republican Party beggars belief especially if you have read the stupid idea that Nancy Pelosi's husband was attacked during a gay tryst that went wrong. Mike Pence who was threatened with hanging during the Capitol riots is even back on board with the mob that wanted to lynch him in January 2020. Should the election go the way it is predicted next week then the dismantling of most human rights will begin and that is only the start with further elimination of all social benefits as soon as legislation can be enacted. Obviously this does not necessarily mean that Trump will be the next POTUS but the odds are that he will become dictator in 2024, even though a lot of things could happen between now and then. Getting back to why this is important to the original thread, it is rumoured that all support for Ukraine will disappear should the election go the way it is predicted and therein lies the biggest problem of all. Unless Ukraine is fully backed in this war against Putin then democracy will fail, possibly to never reappear.

your first and LAST COMMENTS seem to nutshell it. SOME 20,000 RUSSIAN troops in Belarus isnt a good sign ... hopefully if they come down the same road UKRAINE will massacre them? Been out the loop for 2 weeks but apparently the NE area is getting a lot of attention from the Ruskies, ... Bakmut? or something similar rumour has it lost of troops and gear but keep at it ? [ insider info... lol ... using prisoners and Wagner, ruskie prisoners the canon fodder! ] I am waiting for another attack on the bridge .. next time a definitive one .. take the whole thing out ..... also they have [ukraine] had a pop at sebastopol again maybe getting the measure ... take out the bridge and naval area and Ruskie supply route is well screwed.
Republicans would be doing themselves a major injustice to allow Russia to become a dominant factor under the present Putrid regime hopefully 2 more years as is!

Speaking on Ukrainian television, Vitaly Klitschko branded Russia's targeting of infrastructure as "terrorism" and "genocide".
Russian President Vladimir Putin "doesn't need us Ukrainians. He needs territory, he needs Ukraine without us", the former heavyweight boxer said.
"That's why everything that is happening now [strikes on infrastructure] is genocide. His task is for us to die, to freeze, or to make us flee our land so that he can have it.
"That's what the aggressor wants to achieve."

Is it not time for the UN to lay down its humanitarian side and state " the UN is sending humanitarian aid into UKRAINE and Russia is being suspended from the UN. THE ACTS OF GENOCIDE and WAR CRIMES ARE TO DESIST IMMEDIATELY.
Putrids beast has done all this before in Iraq Syria Africa destroying civilian infra structure killing civilians and IGNORING the consequences of his actions knowing he has little chance of being punished. THE UN and Nato have enough fire power to wipe out all threats from the air and supply weaponry to down scuds and drones. The time has come for the UN to do as it says UNITE NATIONS to a collective response and stand up to the evil beasts.

From a North American front the news from Ukraine has gone eerily quiet due to the elections down south. Thankfully it doesn't look like Trump and his minions have got the result they fully expected which will allow aid for Ukraine to continue for the next 2 years. At some point a decision has to be made by both NATO and the EU as to what further involvement they are prepared to present if democracy isn't to disappear in the region. Someone has to step up and be counted so that the possibility of a peace keeping mission could be placed within Ukraine to stem the violence and offer relief to the citizens during the upcoming winter. Putin's threats have been somewhat limited over the last little while and perhaps a brokered deal could let him off the hook gently, which frankly he doesn't deserve.

For me the only ones who should decide whether or not they want to return to Russian control are the people living in the main areas in the Donbas. This can't be achieved at the end of a gun but rather through a fair referendum carried out by third party independents such as the U.N. or a country like Turkey who hold a key interest in stability within the Black Sea area. Going back to the lines defined prior to the invasion could stop the massacre of both Russian and Ukrainian soldiers which both countries would certainly want. Putin and his antics are the key factor in solving this situation and unless he and his generals are prepared to listen to outside reasoning then all attempts to stop this war will fall on deaf ears. Perhaps it's time for an international delegation to book a trip to Moscow to put an ultimatum under Vlad's nose from the end of a long table defining dates and criteria for ending this quickly and determining where we go from here. Will it ever happen?????

The Donbas .... Russia has either killed or "kidnapped " the Ukranian people living in the Donbas area also stolen $bn's of sunflower oil and prepped steel wheat and cerealsso the Donbas has been left with primarily natives of this area that wanted independence [ happens in a lot countries especially Africa/ middle east / south America ]
numbers of UKRANIANS SHIPPED OUT [ FORCED ] to Russia have managed to filter back to the "west" [ ukraine baltic states ]

The big fear is the KHERSON withdrawal is the brain child of the EVIL BEAST Suroviken ... REMOVE "pro russian" or large swathes of the population to Russia .... strip the town of essentials /valuables etc then do as he has done many times before ... flatten it and all who live in it ......... He has gone past caring, is wanted for umpteen war crimes already and knows he will never be tried as death will be his harbinger. Ukraine has suffered a massive onslaught of warcrimes against its civilian population in the past 3 weeks .. maybe time to sink the russian fleet or blow up the bridge properly.... maybe though they need to wait have it set up ready .....

I never understood why any invader would want to essentially destroy the territory you so wanted to capture. Mariupol was a prime example of brutality overtaking reason, so look what that did to a viable industrial city that was valuable to whoever controlled it. The time is here for Ukraine to start doing some of the things you mention and any potential repercussions, other than the nuclear option by Putin, have already been used by the Russians in all of the territories they have taken and destroyed. The much vaunted Russian military might is a mere shadow of it's supposed reputation and Ukraine needs to give them more black eyes and retake the entire Crimean Peninsula, and totally destroy Putin's bridge. The West has to help Ukraine restore some electrical power by hooking them into a neighbouring grid, if that is possible, to enable them to make winter a better proposition. Having spent 30 years living in an arctic climate I understand what a lack of power for lengthy periods can do to the soul and believe me it is not pleasant. I know Ukraine will not want to cede the Donbas region but iit may become crucial if this war across the rest of the country has any chance of ending. Perhaps that option, bad as it may seem, could be done after a free referendum as I said in my last post.

armistice day11/11/and Russia retreat from the first place it "captured" ... is Putrid [ been trying to replicate history for years ] .. seen a date and wants to "cash in on it" ???
Is the handing it over to the "generals" a crafty ploy to eventually say the "generals were told what to do and I wasnt really kept up to date on the real events of the WAR! what war he says it my instruction this was to be a special military operation!!!...

"The Defence Minister took the decision, I have nothing to say about this," President Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Friday. The Kremlin is letting the military own this one. Or, at least, trying to.
But it was President Putin who ordered the invasion of Ukraine. What he calls the 'special military operation' was his idea. Distancing himself from any aspect of it won't be easy.

THEY HAVE LOST A NUMBER OF FRONT LINE GENERALS AND SENIOR RANKS the ones most touted on the media are office based! So who could he sack next to save face .. or to be made to disappear? ..
Also he must be using a few food tasters likely has his own micro wave to warm up the food from last week providing the food taster hasn't died. Mind you he wouldnt really be drinking much either .... especially water! wine or spirits without being in the company of his top brass!

Says he was kidnapped in KYIV? .... SHOWS THE EVIL of some of the leaders of the occupying forces [ Yevgeny Prigozhin ] a Russian prisoner .. accepting freedom, knew the risks? But WHY AND HOW .... KYIV?

Among the Russian forces fighting in Ukraine is the mercenary group Wagner, whose founder Yevgeny Prigozhin praised the brutal killing of a so-called "traitor", shown being attacked with a sledgehammer in a video which went viral on Sunday. It has not been independently verified.

The victim identified himself as Yevgeny Nuzhin and the video - titled "the Hammer of Revenge" - was released on a Telegram channel called Grey Zone, reportedly linked to Wagner.

Seconds before the hammer blows, Nuzhin appeared with his head taped to a brick and said he had deserted to the Ukrainian side "to fight the Russians", but had been kidnapped in Kyiv on 11 November.

In an earlier YouTube video, Nuzhin described to Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov how Wagner had recruited him in a Russian prison, along with other inmates.

Commenting on the video, Mr Prigozhin called it "a dog's death for a dog" and said Nuzhin was a "traitor" who "didn't surrender, but planned his own escape".

UN motion pi**e* orf Russia ................. no veto on this one, but 85 countries sitting on the fence!

Russia has angrily rejected international calls for it to pay for war damage it has inflicted in Ukraine.

It comes after the UN General Assembly passed a resolution saying Russia should face the consequences of its actions, including paying reparations.
General Assembly resolutions carry symbolic weight, but do not have the power to enforce compliance.
The Kremlin said it would work to stop the West seizing its international reserves to pay for reparations.
Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov accused the West of attempting to "formalise robbery" and violate the rules of private property and international law.
The resolution said that Russia "must bear the legal consequences of all of its internationally wrongful acts, including making reparation for the injury, including any damage, caused by such acts".
It also recommends that member states, in collaboration with Ukraine, create an international register to record evidence and claims against Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the resolution, saying that reparations paid by Russia are now "part of the international legal reality".
Ahead of the vote, Kyiv's UN Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya told the assembly that Russia had targeted everything from factories to residential buildings and hospitals in the war.
In addition to needing finance to rebuild infrastructure, he said that recovery "will never be complete without a sense of justice for the victims of the Russian war", adding: "It is time to hold Russia accountable."
Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia labelled the resolution "legally null and void", and accused the West of "trying to draw out and worsen the conflict".
The resolution was supported by 94 [ 49% ] out of 193 member states, while 14 [ 7 % ] - including Russia, China and Iran - voted against it. The remaining countries [ 44% ] all abstained.
By contrast, 143 member states voted in October to condemn Moscow's illegal annexation of parts of Ukraine.

AND TO BOOT LAVROV knew it was going to happen as before the strikes he made a hasty retreat and left Bali minutes before the bombardment hit ..... maybe they should delete Russia from the G20 .... MAYBE Ukraine should make a statement keep sending missiles and we will respond ..... and blow up the airbase in crimea or even a serious attack on naval base in sebastopol even attack the bridge from crimea to russia
