    My issue with offside is this;
There is no 100% way of the technology knowing when the ball was kicked in relation to the ball being passed.
What we are getting are educated guesses.
The issue with offsides was that CLEARLY onside goals were being ruled out and CLEARLY offside goals were being given.
They were so clear that the first viewing of the incident on a replay would confirm it was a mistake.

So imho, if it is not obvious on a replay the goal should stand.

We saw it used really well in the CL v city when their "winner" was shown to be offside on the first replay. If that had previously been allowed pre var there would have been outrage as it was a clear and obvious error.
We saw it poorly used when Sheffield United had a goal ruled out against us after almost 4 minutes of VAR.
If that one had been allowed pre VAR people would have said it was right that the benefit of the doubt went to the attacker.

So, for me, it should be a replay and it should be a call based on the eye.

Either that or change the rule to being one of there has to be daylight between the players for it to be offside.

I watch football for goals nott 5 minute waits for bloody lines and "the computer says no".

Why do people still argue that celtic and rangers would be a plus to the quality of the Premier league?
    They are total dross.

When was the last time a top club signed a player from them and they went on to be brilliant or even good?

They'd argue that they'd be able to sign better players with the PL money and prestige.
Probably shouldn't have wrecked their own league with greed then, eh?

While I agree with the sentiment, I don't see how you can write the Law so there is a grey area.
And having a VAR necessarily means flags have to be delayed.

Any VAR should be judged in real time as well , football is not played in slo mo so should not be ruled by it

Tierney for the Woolwich? Crocked but decent when fit. Which is rare, admittedly.
Wanyama to Southampton a decade ago?
Robertson from Dundee United to Hull in 2014? I think that's it for recent years.

CB Calvin Bassey which went from Leicester to Celtic and in summer moved to Ajax has suddenly come to mind .
Mind you considering their defensive record in CL this year perhaps not .<laugh>

Again, I agree with the sentiment but you can't make a call based on the eye when the camera isn't in line with play. What you can do is draw lines using a computer to adjust perspective. I suppose you could only overturn if the call was wrong by 10cm or something but that still means some calls would be 9.9cm and some 10.1 cm wrong so it would still need a mm making all the difference.

If it not clear by eye then advantage needs to go to the scoring team.
Offside rules were never designed for such marginal calls.

Pre VAR when there was a really tight call people were OK with the advantage being with the attacking team. The issue was only ever when the call was clearly and obviously wrong.

    Re: offside

They should change it so if any part of your body is level with the opponent then you’re onside. Would be so much easier to see and make the game more interesting

Yes I agree but how do you define clearly and obviously wrong? No-one has an issue with goal line calls being made automatically to the nearest millimeter. I don't really understand why Offside should be different....

It is only easier to see if you are exactly in line. If not you are back to drawing lines.
