Merely two practice sessions are nothing to judge by, does that mean the decisions already made and the FP1 opportunity merely PR stuff?

I suspect he will get the seat yes. Bad news for Bruno Senna, but also for Kubica. Renault clearly aren't confident he will return.

The Practice sessions for Grosjean looks like a test to see if he's ready to come back to F1 - which makes a Kubica return very unlikely.

If Grosjean sucks, Senna might keep the seat next year - but he hasn't done very well so far.

Grosjean was **** at the end of 09 frankly Nelson Piquet Jnr was better regardless of his stupid antics. I would keep the current line up for next year if Kubica can't come back.

    Common misconception.

Not only was he getting to grips with F1 (and his car was simply awful) but he had Alonso as his teammate - Alonso putting in top performances and therefore destroying Grosjean was translated by the British as Grosjean being a bad driver, rather than giving Alonso the credit he is due.

Grosjean was a bit error prone at times but he showed he had speed and potential - at times being as close as 3/10's to Alonso in qualifying.

Regardless, I find it hard to believe that Grosjean is the best that Renault can get - unless its down to beung French?

Alguersuari was also ****, so was Fisichella for Ferrari despite having half a season. You can't expect a driver to come in with no testing and start putting in respectable performances, especially when he has such a good team mate.

Renault will almost certainly be Lotus next season (Lotus will be Caterham) so nationality shouldn't come into it.

Renault are going downhill somewhat, and if Grosjean joins that decline will only accelerate. Same, unless he would get better with pre-season time, goes for Senna.

If Sutil (currently team leader at FI lest we forget) does get booted out he'd be my pick, if only because Barichello's past it and Sutil has more experience than sticking another rookie in the car...

True but if your saying that why not just stick with Senna who is in the same situation?

Fair point but for me the current line up is ok at Renault. Just to have a dig at Renault Petrov is only 2 points ahead if Heidfeld in 9th place! <laugh>

also think it's worth noting, Riccado got beaten in the HRT by Karthikeyan, showing it was rather irrelevant to see Senna get beaten by Klein last year

Im a renault fan and not sure Grosjean has what it takes I might be proven wrong but I think Kubica, Petrov and Senna are much more exciting drivers to have in the team

looking at these gossip columns on the bbc:

Romain Grosjean, who returns to Renault in Friday practice in Abu Dhabi and Brazil, says Kubica holds the key to whether he has a future with the team. The 25-year-old, who took over Nelson Piquet Jr's seat in 2009, adds that he feels "more prepared" for his next stint in F1.

Renault are considering allowing Robert Kubica to make a phased return to racing in Formula 1 next year, since time is running out for the Pole to convince the team that he will be fit for the start of testing on 7 February.

It looks like Grosjean and Kubica will seat share next year at Renault so the other seat is down to Senna or Petrov by the looks of it. Who do you think they will choose?

Petrov, seems to be doing pretty well and has some pretty good backing. I'm starting to doubt we'll see Kubica again, and even if he is phased back in next year thats another year written off for him.

Don't agree with phasing Kubica in, as soon as he's ready he should be in.

Kubica's got another surgery coming up so I guess that will be a factor.

In 2009 Massa was pretty much back to normal by the end of the season (at least on the outside) but I think it's going to take longer for Kubica. Can't they pop him in a lower formula car or something to get him match fit?

Probably want to be 100% certain he can handle it first with the g's before letting him go ahead getting match fit

In football, a player coming back from injury gets some runs in the reserves in order to become match fit. I think it would seriously help Kubica to use 2012 as a year of getting his eye back in.

Grosjean to Renault next year seems a bit likely based on this comment:

Petrov will stay because he brings more sponsorship cash to Renault, but Senna's seat is looking very fragile.

Must admit though, I like seeing Renault frustrated - serves them right for mistreating Heidfeld.
