Unfortunately he's more of a defender. Great at forming a wall.

There's the question, Can they or will they take the next step?

Clear they had an idea that the club would be self funding and the non-team related activities are an attempt to do that, stadium, commercial etc, but in an age of Citeh, PSG, Newcastle and so on is that still a workable strategy. Even traditional 'rich' clubs are showing huge struggles, Barcelona and Juventus clear examples of failing to keep up.

FSG were the right owners when they came in, they brought stability and economical know how. As for the future... depends on what the ambition is.

they not only impose the self sustaining constraint ( which i've no issue with)

they also impose a low to no debt policy as well which severely hamstrings the club financially. everything has to be afforded out of cash flow.

"keeping up" is not barca's issues its unsustainable debts run up irresponsibly due to rank transfer policies and huge stupid wages.

Debts run up by trying to keep up.

Klopp has a good relationship with the owners who have backed him - up to a limit. I think they would have spent big on Tchouameni and Nunez in the summer but the former chose to go elsewhere. That's why I'm unsure whether it's Klopp who has been the one restricting the spend, because he doesn't want second best, and not FSG.

I trust Klopp fully but like everyone else, he isn't perfect and may have misjudged the need for more midfielders based on the sheer amount we already have rather than their continued availability. He strikes me as someone who wouldn't buy a new jacket unless he really had to.

Exactly. The only way to keep up financially with the state-owned or playboy-owned clubs is for us to go down the same route.
I would hate that and I hope it never happens.
I'd rather hope that the authorities would exercise an effective and fair FFP system rather than show the impotence and incompetence on display thus far. However, given that we're talking about FIFA here I think it's a forlorn hope.
I'm afraid the best we'll see is a serendipitous coming together of players and manager to temporarily challenge the money cheats.
We've managed this for the past few years - that period might be fading now or we might revive it. We'll have to see.

We can talk about struggling to keep up with City's level of spending but we're being outspent by the likes of West Ham, and mid table clubs.

    There is no excuse.

Are we investing enough in the playing team for a club of our stature?

Just my opinion but we might have bought one early in window but this would have been touchy lad.

As it didn't happen imo we didn't push to get rid of the dross and declared ourselves happy and said dir decided to be injured.

We need to sell or accept their wages are lost in next 6 months and can suck it up.

We need to see that we are more like city and less like Chelsea.

City squad isn't massively bloated here.
They just have not let it get old and **** bar once and we won the league that year

Laporte in but injured. Out. (Thry buy ake and dias then)
Rodri in. Fernandinho held another year.
B.silva in and d.silva stays for a good while.
Aguero's long good bye but they what for haaland.

In general they are a midfield heavy club as pep wants

Foden, silva, debruyne can play up top or in midfield and gundogan and Rodri etc can do the work

They don't have as many injuries either

Realistically we just totally ****ed it this year and last with ox, keita, and both milner and henderson.

I can't beleive there's not 1 cm across Europe that wasn't on our list that could have joined so it does somewhat come down to the wages as well.

    We are not allowed to.

    Revenues suggest we can.

The capital debts to fsg are back being paid and add in 80mil stand and that stops cash flow.

We steadfastly refuse to run up any debt so no backing of manager to get a player investment right thst will pay back in shirts over 5 years. Absolutely no desire to engage by the looks of it.

well not having access to the books i cannot say what our current financial position is however i can say we have lost money in both the last 2 accounting years , I think we would have bought if Klopp said "i want him" with the obvious proviso that they would come .

All the above posts suggest that there’s no chance of getting Jude Bellingham. FFP is a joke and even if the powers that be enforced it, the likes of City have shown that money buys top legal talent as well

I know our priorities should and will be CM, whether it be a DM or B2B, but putting that aside...

Would anyone consider James Maddison if the option came up? Stats are quality this season that would improve with better players around him, clearly a very good player imo. Would possibly hamper the development of Elliott, Carvalho and Jones though.

Jones isn't good enough imo and Elliott and Carvalho are young enough and play various positions to not be affected.

But yes, similar to Mount and both would suit us. 26 this month though, so not sure if there is much value for money
