Therein lies the predicament. I wonder how many potential candidates are put off by the lack of investment in our club.
Hear you loud and clear Irish. I wonder though than rather a lack of investment, it's more a case of poor investment. Either way, our board continues to think it can make decisions without a football brain on board. I also wonder if there is a culture of micro management and a "we know best" attitude from the board in their relationships with team managers. As usual, I have no evidence of this but it's a feeling born out of what has happened.
Morison worked wonders in the loan market last January. Without that we’d have been seriously in relegation bother. A new manager surely wouldn’t have funds of any significance. There are of players on the books who should be out the door but regrettably most are on contracts. Who’d want the likes of Sawyers
Lack of investment? Tan has given this club more than £200 million so how many championship sides or even some premier sides had that sort of investment. Obviously if the fans put up their millions that might help and give them some base to complain.
That was then. This is now. As I have said on here many times, football success is about money. Money to invest in a new successful manager. Money to invest in capable players. Without this we won’t get the crowds through the turnstiles or get TV revenue from being an attractive team to watch who are getting results. That’s why we need investment now or we’ll be heading for the trap door to Division One and we really don’t need that scenario. I’m not sure what you mean about ‘fans putting up their millions’ What does that even mean? When has that ever happened? The only person who can help us financially is Tan or if he can sell the club to someone who is willing to put in the right investment. I believe this has to happen soon or we will go into the January window living off scraps again and biting our nails till the end of the season as we try to avoid relegation. I also wonder if our board, who seem to have been missing in action for most of this season can stick their heads above the parapet and gives us fans some feedback on anything they may be undertaking to help our club. I won’t hold my breath.
All good points Irish. The fundamentalmental issue is that VT is in for approaching £200 million in shares and loans. This figure is probably increasing month by month. I don't think, particularly in the current economic position, that we are a proposition attractive enough for someone to stump up that sort of money and make further investment in management and playing staff. As a result both VT and the club are in a Catch 22 situation. I can't see any sort of solution without VT gambling on further investment one way or another.
As I said before, the club needs appropriate investment and it amazes me that VT can't see that he could make investment less of a gamble if he had switched on people running the club. Of the £200m invested, a significant amount has been wasted on poor appointments and purchases. Until this is addressed, we'll carryon going on from pillar to post with expensive, ineffective short term decisions.
Totally agree with that observation. Problem is who can get this so patent issue through to our Malaysian owners. I just get the impression they don’t really care and are happy as you say to carry on year by year as the club stagnates. But surely the business decision makers must eventually take a look at City and decide whether it’s going to be seriously invested in or not. It can’t just go on and on treading water.
Or worse Clingo. I don't know at which point we might break FFP rules. The reduction in wage bill will have helped mitigate that but by the law of diminishing marginal returns, as performance worsens, attendances fall, possible relegation and a further reduction in income it can only be a matter of time before we fall foul of the regulations. Then we suffer umbongos and incur other penalties. A very bleak outlook unless we can turn things around and soon.
I am not convinced we’ll be in breach of the rules as I don’t imagine the owners will permit it - when it comes to losing money they perk up I’d be happy if we just get through this season unscathed
Sorry I thought this was about the next manager! Morrison won 3 out of 10 and Hudson has 2 wins in 4 that is a total of 5 wins in 17 games which is the reason we are down the bottom. This team with the best players can play fast one touch football and as much as I hate to admit it anyone here could do a better job than the last two.
If we lose tomorrow I’d be unsurprised if Hudson is told thanks for the effort but you’re not in charge anymore.
On that basis, it makes you wonder what would be the best result today for the mid/long term rather than the 3 points a win would bring. That's if you have any faith in the current decision makers at the club as to appointing a replacement.
Ah the old catch 22. Always a win for me (unless it’s the last day, we’re safe and losing to our opponents sent swansea down)
I hold onto the fact that when Hudson joined us as a player, he was unpopular for a while and found himself under pressure...then he came into his own and became first name on the team sheet! Hoping he gets a result!
Regarding direction and positive decision making, is anyone else of the opinion that those running our club just haven't got a clue what to do? They're just waiting for providence to help them out.
Yes. And I've been saying so for a while. Many avoidable and expensive mistakes and all because of the lack of football nous on the board.
We've been talking about it for years. For all their failings there was a level of football knowledge with Sam and the riddler. Thought colin may have stayed on as an advisor to the board. Wonder what DJ is up to? Just someone who knows the game top to bottom. Not necessarily a full time role. A few days a month for football related board meetings.
