Just doing a bit of maths, if it's being reported that 40,000 have arrived this year so far and the government's figures say just under 5k arrived up til the end of march, that means 35,000 people have arrived in seven months.

I agree with you on that one Fell Top <ok>

The email she apologised for was a draft ministerial written statement, which should be presented to the 'house' before anyone else has access to it.

Information in government is classified in three ways, Official, Secret and Top Secret and ministers are required to use the encrypted email system for Official business and anything classified as Secret or above should not be emailed at all.

If it is nothing, why are they refusing to release details?

"When Braverman addresses the Commons today on all this, as she is expected to do, she will be fighting to keep a job she's had only since Wednesday."

"When Grant Shapps briefly became home sec, he was made aware that under Braverman the numbers at Manston had gone from 1,600 to 3,000+ in weeks He immediately reversed the hotels ban Home Office officials worked through the night to book rooms."

Unless that's changed in the last couple of months, it was SECRET and above that had to be sent on the secure system. OFFICIAL was fine between work computers but you had to get permission to send to anyone outside that system.

Thinking back, I reckon you are right, work computers are fine but it's an offence to send emails to your personal email.

I have been retired eight years so you need to excuse my memory in my dotage :emoticon-0105-wink:

I am not sure how we judge a situation like this to be honest, in terms of whether it is worse or better. What stats would be the right ones? Genuine question as I honestly dont know.

Net migration seems to have come down dramatically over the course of the last 10 years. It was rising rapidly under the last Labour government if I remember correctly. Mind you can we trust stats these days. It was a problem that Tony Blair was really excercised over and some of what was proposed was deemed quite unsavoury. I am not suggesting Labour got it wrong, I genuinely dont know what good looks like on this subject.

TBH that's the case at every job I've ever had ...

... for a Home Secretary to think she can send a series of messages like that is absolutely disgraceful imo.

I'm referring to illegal immigration mate.

It's much worse and no one is sent back.

    Despite endless schemes and promises.

"Almost 1,000 migrants crossed the English Channel in 24 small boats on Saturday, the Ministry of Defence says.

It brings the total number of migrants making the journey from France so far this month to 6,395.

Government figures collated by the BBC show 39,430 people have crossed on small boats so far this year, compared with 28,461 who arrived in 2021."

Last time I was in hospital, about 5 years ago... it was two Italian nurses who mainly looked after me, they have gone now..

    Care homes cannot get staff..

Farmers cannot get their crops in..

We hear of shortages in other industries, hospitality, drivers etc.

Methinks just stopping all immigration is hurting us a lot!

There is very little in place to deal with migrants when they arrive in the UK and never has been.
It doesn't take much logic to see why.

Yeah I tend to align to that way of thinking too. It has become an incredibly divisive topic.

I doubt anyone wants the Albania/Turkish criminals and why they cannot be deported i fail to understand.

Iirc Australia used to run a 'are you any use to the country' sort of procedure.

Brexit hasn't helped us work in Europe either.

Going to work abroad has become much more complicated which will prevent our youngsters having a year in France, Italy, wherever ...

... shame as they'll become a little more insular and have more of an island mentality.

I know some people think that's how it should be, I disagree.
