Agree with your comments regarding moving the away fans to wherever is best. As Smug says, there's no segregation outside of the ground so should be easy to arrange and police.
I'm not sure that's actually legal. Taking people's money off them doesn't seem right to me. I wonder if any away fan challenges it at the turnstiles
Coins and vapes banned That will show them Sunderland issue club statement regarding introduction of fan safety measures - Chronicle Live
There were a few interesting comments on the Twitter post. What if an away fan just won the footy card on the bus and has to hand over, say, £30 or even more. I wonder if that's why it says away fans will be 'asked' to hand over coins.
Does anyone know if the mags have similar issues to us regarding stuff being chucked down from the away end? Because I never hear anything about it, only seems to be an issue here
If it’s banned prior to entry, and they’re made aware of this, then you can take it off them. It’s a cashless venue anyhow so why do you need coins?
Agree, "The new measures will be in place from this weekend’s home fixture versus Cardiff City and they are in addition to the operational changes made in August, which includes the searching of all away fans upon entering the stadium, increasing stewarding capacity in the North Stand and enhancing the CCTV network. "Following a request made on Thursday morning, the EFL have agreed that coins and vapes will no longer be permitted in the away section of the North Stand at the Stadium of Light. "Any visiting supporter found carrying these items will be asked to discard of them prior to entering the stadium, at which point they will be subjected to enhanced security procedures to further reduce the risk of objects entering the stadium which can be used as missiles.
I don't personally, I very rarely carry cash either paper or coins. I just think it would be penalising the majority. What if, for example some away fans had coins for the metro back to the train station and they got it took off them. May as well ban it for home fans as well, just to be on the safe side.
This latest announcement is a complete waste of time . . . . they might aswell have said 'we're doing nothing to protect the Sunderland fans below' 'cos that's in effect how they're treating our serious safety concerns They either don't give a toss about our safety or they simply don't understand, despite numerous complaints making them aware of the dangers that we face
this seems a recent thing, i remember it being mentioned once but more appear to be doing it now...i fail to see why decent CCTV cannot catch them and at least then only the guilty will 'suffer', seems a shame to punish all fans for the actions of a couple...
aye but most people are travelling half the distance of the country to get to the stadium. Personally I hardly ever carry any cash. But expecting people to forfeit cash on the gate is just crazy. It’s impossible to police as well and just screams of the club saying something to make it look like they’ve taken it seriously
