To be fair, they don't provide the whole conversation and so, knowing WoL, you'll probably find his next words were something like "but we know it won't be easy" or similar.

Either way though it will provide a bit of motivation I'm sure.

Just hope our boys concentrate on the first two games though and don't let the noise and hype of the England game, camp and English biased media distract them.

The USA are no mugs and we'll need to be right on it from the off. If we lose or even draw that one the pressure will build massively.
Last time we played the English, although it was close in terms of scoreline, they were the better team and I felt we let the occasion get to us.

    Hopefully it won't happen again.

I think this time around the novelty of being in the final stages of a major competition will have worn off. Consequently, I don't think our lads will let the prospect of playing England be what it's all about for them
Certainly, England are right to expect to win comfortably given what they have to choose from. However, they'll take us for granted at their peril.
Fully agree that we need to stick with the cliché of one game at a time and we shouldn't let the thought of playing our neighbours detract from the attention given to the other group games

I'm ok with it. We sing the anthem in Welsh and Cymru isn't difficult to pronounce.
No doubt some will make a political issue out of it.

Thing is, Wales has been known as Cymru by many for ages. Not sure the Welsh FA has naming rights for Cities.

    It was a joke.

As for Wales being known as Cymru by many for ages, I would suggest that by far the huge majority of those actually live in Wales, not the wider world.

I took it as a joke and my reply was equally tongue in cheek.
And yes, the vast majority of Welsh speakers are in Wales just as the vast majority of Italian speakers are in Italy.

No problem clingo - I'll just leave it at this.

The greater proportion of Welsh or Italian speakers will obvioulsy reside in their own country, that's not the point I was making. Italy is known around the world as Italy, Italie or Italia and it's a no brainer as to which country it refers - you don't need to speak Italian to understand that.

On the other hand, there are very few except for ex-pats around the world that will have any clue whatsoever as to where Cymru is or refers to. That's not necessarily a problem for me as it's very low on my priority list.

I'd better get off ths thread before a pleasant discussion between CCFC fans becomes more complicated. <ok>

So an opportunity to tell the world about our history and culture. I think of all the Eastern European countries that have changed their name and that I had to find out about. But this is nothing as drastic

This is a simple proposal and shouldn't be a reason for agitation. Everyone has the right to call the team Cymru or Wales and those who don't recognise Cymru can find out easily enough.

Not a major issue and not a Plaid takeover bid <laugh>

    Are you that sure? :emoticon-0105-wink:

Apparently I used to live in somewhere called "Ogwr Borough" but thank goodness it was abolished about 20 years back. I'm not a promoter for the anglicize brigade and it's a personal opinion, but Bridgend County Borough and the seaside at the mouth of the River Ogmore are far better to me than "Ogwr" and "Ogwr-by-Sea".........<laugh>

Anyway, back to the Cymru football - I'll withdraw let you get on with it.

I have no views on the first part of that. I'm with talking about what Brizzle brought up

I definitely think that this forum could do with a politics thread as it seems to creep in on different threads. I'm sure the posters on this board can conduct themselves in a respectful way.
