Whatever the Tories are doing it is not working. We have absolutely no idea what Labour would do in the event of being elected, but to just stick with a party that is getting worse and worse every year of the 12 they have been making decisions, just in case Labour aren't very good either is madness as Albert Einstein defined it. The whole point of democracy is to kick out the party who are doing badly and give someone else a chance.
You did with this one mate, the price was shown at the Dover petrol station where the suicide took place. My post was a bit vague and oblique though to be fair.
To be fair the Tories have had twelve years of economic reality and we're now in a huge mess ... ... it seems practice doesn't always make perfect. I'm sure you're right, things will become more brutal which is crippling for people using foodbanks, shivering in their homes and already at breaking point. I'll be fine, personally, but I really worry about children in poverty and decent people struggling to survive.
I think the establishment would have forced one to be honest. No way would they have been given the same allowances.
I have the same worries. It is terrifying for a lot of people. A teacher friend told me of a mum collecting her son from school who had fallen and gashed his head. Wanted to get him to local hospital to be checked but didnt have money to put petrol in the car and was fretting. This is in a reasonably afluent area too. Terrible state of affairs we are in.
She's a terrible choice as Home Secretary ... ... to choose her once is careless, to choose her twice is idiotic. Apart from her ineptitude in dealing with 'boat people', lying about her resignation, etc, she's like a rabbit stuck in the headlights and seems to be hiding under her desk. And coincidentally, as it's Halloween, all kinds of skeletons are coming out of her closet ... ... various accusations are emerging regarding her claims about her credentials, degree, suspension from the US bar, etc. Around 1000 boat people arrived on Saturday, the detention centres are vastly overcrowded and processing is slowing down, not speeding up. She doesn't even seem to have the backing of some of her colleagues.
Only one party chooses when there's a general election. The party in power. Who are 'the establishment'?
If your kids or grandkids ask for career advice tell then to get a trade. Computer programs will replace most positions in the future but they'll never be able to run electrical cables through a house or unblock a sewer. I've never met a broke plumber or electrician in my life
No. It's a pointless whinge that wastes parliamentary time - exactly what most of this lot want, granted. Can't be doing any actual work when you can shout 'GENERAL ELECTION NOW' two or three times a day and skive the rest of it.
That's correct and why I think we're currently building our house on weak foundations. Putting your eggs in a call centre, insurance, IT basket seems risky when they're all things that can be moved in the flick of a switch. If we stop producing goods we'll end up being overley dependent on imports. Companies who produce goods, in the UK, are more likely to pay UK tax than companies who send us goods or have operations that are ethereal.
You need to catch up with this mornings news, Labour were on stating the mess with the boat people is all down to the tories red tape they've introduced. Previously we could process the numbers of refugees we are seeing, so Labour would reverse a lot of the decisions the tories have brought in.
It wouldn't matter who it was. When you're in power you can call a GE whenever you like. Or run it right to the last possible day. Unless the opposition are effective enough to turn enough government MPs in order to win a vote of no confidence. At which point you could argue that they've earned a chance to govern outside of the parliamentary term limits. Stamping feet and screeching on Twitter isn't achieving that.
Well of course, if you're effectively waving people through and straight into the ether, never to be seen again until there's a slavery bust somewhere, you can 'process' loads more people. I'm not against letting people in btw. I'm against letting people coming in evaporate into thin air with no idea where they've come from or where they're going after they get here. It has to be a controlled process.
My poor understanding of get control of our borders... Assess if they are genuine asylum seekers.. Assess are they coming here to fill, needs of agriculture or care homes etc Atm we are not doing the first or the second of these... Instead we have dreams of sending them to Rwanda! FFS
It was... more than 110 refugee charities have signed an open, and pointed, letter to Home Secretary Suella Braverman, calling for a "kind and effective system" for those seeking asylum in the UK. Almost 1,000 migrants arrived in Dover on Saturday, and just a day later, a man hurled three homemade bombs from his car window at the Border Force centre where they were being processed. The suspect then took his own life following the incident, Reuters news agency said. At a fringe event during the Conservative Party conference earlier this month, Ms Braverman had said her "dream" and "obsession" would be seeing a plane taking off to Rwanda with migrants. She has also said the only way for refugees to get into the UK is through a "safe and legal route". The letter read: "Home Secretary, when you talk of 'safe and legal routes', you must be aware that it is impossible to ask refugees to come exclusively through such a path when even Afghan interpreters who are eligible for one of our few existing schemes remain in hiding from the Taliban. "When you talk of 'illegal migrants', you must be aware that the top nationalities of people making dangerous journeys include Afghanistan, Eritrea and Syria, and that at least 97% of asylum claims made by people from these countries are successful."
