Championship side Coventry City are under a transfer embargo while they repay money owed to HM Revenue and Customs.

If they can't pay their tax bill how can they afford to buy the stadium.

    They won't.

    They've won 4 of 15 ...

    ... Can't see them winning 2 of 2 tbh.

They've picked up one point from the last two games, both at home.

It looks more and more like Coventry are scrambling with an enormous amount of help from the FA (no surprise there). I just think that any club that is unable to complete fixtures allocated unless previously agreed should be hit with points deductions and fines. I understand that that clubs sometimes move home temporarily ( Tottenham whilst having a new stadium built) I understand ground sharing but this is something which is wholly unacceptable as Coventry sold their stadium then used the money and are now without a home and are still being given chance after chance. Surely they have created this situation by spending beyond their means and now are asking for clemency and time to pay for me they should be deducted points for failure to complete fixtures and the league should be scrutinising their finances as their is definitely something not adding up.

I seem to recall Stewart Donald putting the idea out there that us selling our stadium and renting it back would be a good idea. Thank the lord it never happened or we could have been in the same situation.

    Coventry are a grotesque mystery.

I can't think of any club which has been so regularly indulged by the authorities.

They are a kind of phantom club. No ground of their own, no intention of ever getting one, in and out and in again of the one they hope to get for small beer. Hardly any fans, even playing 30 miles way for three seasons.

They are worse than a joke, and are a terrible indictment of the dysfunctional and shady way the EFL is governed.

In theory those are two different types of debt.

One, the tax bill, is a cashflow problem.

Buying their Stadium would be a long-term commitment.

    HOWEVER.

Imagine going into your local, friendly, Building Society/Bank.
'I'm broke, just about bankrupt, and I want you to lend me all the money to buy my house.'

What do you imagine the answer would be?

If it was me, the answer would be no.

If it was you, the answer would be no.

If it's them, the answer will be yes.

No doubt The Football League will treat Coventry the way they treated Bury FC.

After all I presume that they, The EFL approved the various owners as being fit and proper persons to own and run these clubs.

I fully understand that the situations are not exactly the same but that goes for any club but it does seem that they are being extremely lenient with Coventry as opposed to other clubs who have abused their finances. Not sure weather they should punish teams further for financial problems but it does seem to stop irresponsible teams from doing a Portsmouth and spending fortunes that they did not have, having said that Coventry have done similar but sold their ground to cover the shortfall and are now asking for understanding from the FA and in my opinion it should be a case of your owners/directors have caused this mess so you will be judged on the mess that has been made. Please bear in mind that the FA and the 'RIGOROUS OWNERS AND DIRECTORS ' test is not without blame either and as has been pointed out this could have been Sunderland if SD and CM had been left in charge for much longer (however I also believe that because of the assets the club had that it is unlikely that we would not have been taken over at some point)

Coventry and Madman Storey deserve each other. Can't understand the EFL position. Surely,if you can't fulfil your fixtures, you should be expelled from the league.

Storey may be as mad as a hatter, but Mike Ashley isn't.

So why would Mike want to do business with Bill?

And why would he want to buy a Stadium that might have difficulty in finding a tenant, the question mark still hanging over the Football Club and the Rugby Club out of The Premiership and in Administration also with a huge question mark about its future.
