He also said “Woodcock would have scored but his shot was too perfect”<laugh>

My favourite of Ron’s was “ I never comment about referees and I am not going to break the habit of a lifetime for that prat.”

I recall Atkinson’s comment about Marcel Desailly getting him into a bit of bother!

Don’t forget to factor in our APQ
    Very important is that

Numbers can be deceiving but directors at a club that is 44% owned by the statistics-obsessed, NFL-rooted San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have noted that Leeds’ expected goals tally is the seventh-best in the Premier League and the same goes for their average possession quotient of 52.5%.

If you think that then fair enough, I'm only saying what I'm told by people who work on this type of stuff for clubs day to day ...I guess they must be lying

Is that really so hard to believe? I have no inside knowledge like Howden claims to but it makes perfect sense to me that well-paid expert analysts would be looking at specific metrics to determine factors hard to observe with the naked eye, rather than something as vague and general as xG.

Very hard to believe. Analytics is a huge part of football these days and xG and other likewise stats are a critical part of analytics at the majority of clubs.

You're correct, analytics is a huge part of football at all professional levels and to some extent below that ( budgets allowing ) but as I said, there are far more meaningful stats and data that is looked at. XG is way down the list.

I've just asked another girl I know who works for a prem team, her answer....

" XG, lol, if the gaffer really wants to hammer a forward or any of the attacking minded midfielders, then he'll ask for it. But on the whole, it's not really something we will base meaningful player profiles on"

Reading what you want to see to back up your point as opposed to what someone has actually said.... That's not like you!

And big noting yourself to trump other people's opinions is so unlike you.

xG and similar analytics is a lot of what clubs like Brighton/Brentford use in their recruitment models, rather than looking at how many goals a player actually scores. They may well have advanced beyond the raw stat, but xG is a fundamental element of a lot of the data analytics that is done and to say that clubs don't use it is incredibly misleading.

Big noting myself? Feel free to point out where I've done that and just FYI, I haven't said anything. People who actually do this at clubs for a living have said it's way way down on the list of things they look at and I've just passed that info on. Also feel free to point out where I've said clubs don't use it ...

Deeney hit the ball over the bar from the penalty spot last home game.

McGregor had a fantastic penalty save ratio. In fact, he saved a penalty a few minutes into his debut for us (though did give it away). For me, City’s best goalie ever.
