I have been banging this drum since July. There are teams in the league that are actively offensive to my delicate sensibilities and we’re better than them. We will get better results. Funny enough, I just started the new FM and it asks for a mid table finish in the first season. We were dog **** until January and then since Jan we’ve only lost 2 and we’re 6th in the table. Now, I’m not saying Ralph is in any way as good a manager as I am but I don’t think it’s at all far-fetched to believe that, with Tino and Lavia back and a young squad continuing to develop, we’ll improve as the season progresses.
Forgot that I already pre-purchased it. We have eight players on the wonderkids list, heh. I might fully commit and see whether it's possible for me to have a year-one squad without a single player (beyond Aribo who can't be sold) over the age of 21.
Half way through the 4th season, just topped this weird new CL format league table thing and 6 points clear at the top of the Prem. If FM is to be believed we should sign Khephren Thuram and become the best team in the world
So you are forcing out JWP? I didn’t realise people had already got the game. I haven’t played for a few years but am tempted this year
JWP, Livramento, Salisu and Lavia are the only players I still have from the original squad. All of them are rotation options JWP is a cheat code in FM as corners are so easy to score from and he is amazing at them
Thinking about it just to do something silly. Even though he's generally ridiculously good in FM (though I tend to set up my corners specifically to keep my team from scoring so many off him), and in 22 produced one of my best storyline moments ever. Decided that he wanted to go to PSG (where Poch still was), so I eventually relented and sold him, a few years in. Ran down his contract, and I bought him back with 6 months left on his deal when he was 33ish. We reached the CL final...against Poch and PSG. Where JWP scored the winning penalty.
Do you need to set up a specific corner routine to make them easy to score from like in the past or are they just naturally easy to score from? Does that make them equally hard to defend?
I remember an older version of FM (I think at least 4 years back) where I turned JWP into someone who was both a natural as a number 10 and a right winger in a 4-2-3-1 (crossing ability I think). It was definitely before his set piece ability got revealed
You can do, but it is basically exploiting the game (at least it was on FM22). Get your tallest player to attack the near post and aim all corners there, the tall player will get 30+ goals a season pretty comfortably. I don’t change anything on it as it just feels pointless playing if you do that. Ironically it’s what we tried for a few games in real life but the tall player at the front post lost every header and it just looked like JWP hit the first man every time
So who are the tips to try and sign with our remaining budget (assuming we have one) in the first window? Notably to fix the “goals goals goals” issue (to at least somewhat bring this thread around) ?
It's a simple process. 1. Identify the player(s) who have the skill set and suit the club ethos. 2. Make the club an attractive proposition for the targets. 3. Agree the fee and personal terms, medical passed. 4. Contract signed by all parties. 5. Player(s) integrate into the club and score 20+ goals for the next 5 seasons before being sold for a huge profit. Easy peasey so why wasn't the 5 point plan followed last window? Sack 'em all, incompetent bastards.
I haven't been following, but a brief google suggests Delap hasn't exactly had a breakthrough season at Stoke. Wonder if it just isn't the right fit, if he just isn't ready yet for that level, or if he's just not as good as hyped. Does seem to suggest that going in for £20m+ might not have been a great use of our budget but still far too early to right him off. Just think for that outlay, and given the makeup of the rest of our squad, we can't really be spending big on a striker right now that isn't first team ready.
JWP, Adam Armstrong and (oddly) Djenepo feel overpowered in my team so far. Sold Salisu when Real Madrid came in with a £60m bid in January!
I’ve been reading and watching some things that seem to suggest that Adams and Armstrong make quite a good pairing in FM versions. So much so that the need for a striker is nothing like what it is in real life Apparently Bazunu is rubbish in the beta version?
Been good for me. I have Junior Adamu and Adam Armstrong vying for the striker role alongside Adams currently.
Agreed. Definitely feel like Brighton might be ones to plummet. Their crazy start is totally unsustainable with Danny Welbeck up front
Kind of. It's more a 4-2-4 type deal. Bazunu Perraud Buongiorno ABK Livramento Lavia/Rosario JWP Djenepo/Talles Magno Lukebakio Adams Junior Adamo
