Good points and it’s pretty scary. I know we were all pretty positive about our transfer window, but that was when we thought Gakpo was coming in. The fact that the club didn’t deliver on a replacement first choice striker is scandalous really.
Not really. Most of us were positive before we got any inkling of Gakpo. However, we were under the impression we were going to sign another striker. It is something that needs addressing in January.
Yes, but who is likely to be available and at what price? The last time that we bought a striker in the January window was Guido Carrillo for £20m and look how that turned out.
We can't let one bad signing put us off though. The table is incredibly tight and looks like it will stay that way. We may have no choice but to pay January's inflated prices to ensure our PL survival.
We seem scarred specifically by high priced attacking flops - Carrillo, Boufal and to a lesser extent Elyounoussi I’ve seen a gossip column saying forest will spend 50-100m in January. I’m not sure where their squad space is for this (I don’t think it exists) but that could be a problem regardless of how slap dash their spending has been so far. Out of 100m they could well get just enough in. I wonder if they will ruthlessly bomb out some of the summer signings which might not be a good look
Yeah. In fairness we were correct. In the clubs defence, the new signings that we have brought in have been great this season. if we had kept Romeu (or signed another physical DM that was ready to go) and signed a striker it would have been a dream window. First choice striker and back up for Lavia are the only big holes in the squad now. But not having a clinical striker is a pretty big hole. It could easily see us relegated
We’re not getting relegated. We might have the odd scare as this will be a very odd season, but we have more than enough talent in the squad now to get the points required.
Now you’ve done it . I am not sure why you are so confident? Goals win games. If Adams gets an injury we will go down for sure.
Or if Adams gets injured maybe someone else will get a chance (Mara?) of a run of games and score a hatful. #GlassHalfFull
I think the early world cup means we're shopping now. Expect deals done early January. If not we're ****ed.
I wish I had you confidence but there are lot of seemingly quite similar teams this year with few obviously bad ones that will get cut adrift
Why? There's what, 5 league games between now and 1st Jan. There's also the WC break where I don't think our recruitment team will be just sitting watching the WC somehow. Why not wait until after the January window before making statements like that?
And we’re not one of the obviously bad ones imo. We have a lot of new young talent, who have already improved the squad. The team needs time to gel but that’s starting to happen. Okay, we are short a proven striker, and a bit light in midfield, but that was equally true last season once Broja went off the boil/downed tools.
My point was I’m not sure that there are any obviously bad ones. Look at how Leicester were awful and have now remembered they have quality players and got 4 clean sheets in 5 and scored a bunch of goals I guess forest but they beat Liverpool recently and might drop a massive amount in January to try and stay up. Leeds are playing badly but a new manager but bring them on. Brentford I think are low key worse than many realise but as long as they have Toney they can break away. There just seem to be at least 10 teams who are not miles apart from each other (and we are in that 10). There is definitely a risk if we sit on our hands in January / let past bad experiences of bad investment lead us to get too jittery
Based on the current squad; it’s true in my opinion. Can’t assess the future squad until it happens January could change things, agreed. It’s very difficult to find a PL quality striker though.
Just looking at the other sides in the league shows that finding a PL quality striker is clearly difficult as several sides don't have one. Us, Forest, Leeds, Wolves, Palace, Brighton and Bournemouth. So I'd say at least 35% of the league
This is the really worrying thing, normally there would be one team struggling by now. I don’t see anyone being cut adrift any time soon.
There are also always teams that start on fire and drop like a stone. Of course we could, but Bournemouth, Forest, Brentford, Fulham, Palace and even Brighton could take a major downward turn.
