Good Morning. It's Wednesday 26th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Bamford's form continuing to plummet

Joe Gelhardt has dropped down the pecking order in a desperate bid to get Rodrigo and Bamford firing on all cylinders, according to Leeds-Live reporter Beren Cross. Apart from an U21's game earlier this season, Bamford has not found the back of the net since last December, when he came on as a second half substitute to grab a late leveller against Brentford, before injuring himself during his goal celebration.

Bamford's form has dropped so dramatically, that the 29yo finds himself rock bottom of the 'Whoscored' ratings guide, with an average score of 6.07, over 391 minutes of game time this term.

In contrast, his strike partner Rodrigo sits third, with an average score of 6.87; and with five goals, and an assist under his belt, it's easy to see why! How long will Marsch persevere with Bamford? In a game where the tiniest of inconsistencies can be the difference between success and failure, will we ever see him hit the form from a couple of years ago? Do Leeds need to invest more time with Gelhardt, or is the gulf between the U21's and the Premier League just too far?

"Gelhardt seems to have slid down the agenda this season. With Rodrigo and Bamford 'fit' or pain-free at least, everyone's focus has been on playing one of them into form while the youngster waits on the sidelines."

"Sunday's consolation reminded us what Gelhardt can do with the ball at his feet, but does he have the stature to lead the line from the start in this system? You look at how he played away at Brentford this season and it didn't really work with him."

Wing backs not strong enough to compensate for Marsch's narrow tactics

Leeds Utd journalist Beren Cross believes the Leeds board have seen enough encouraging signs from the players to give Jesse Marsch a stay of execution, at least for the time being. Apart from the Brentford and Leicester City, Leeds have only lost by a single goal, and in truth, they deserved more from Southampton (2-2), Arsenal (0-1) and Palace (1-2). Cross points the finger at the wing backs, claiming they are not strong enough going forward to compensate for Marsch's narrow tactics. Does he have a point?

According to Cross "They (the ER board) feel there has been enough in these draws and narrow losses to believe Marsch can rectify it. That Arsenal display was less than 10 days ago, for example. The lack of left-back and striker is certainly on the board rather than him."

"The tactics seem to be the crux of the matter. Are they working? The evidence would overwhelmingly suggest not. The lack of width is not working because the full-backs are not good enough to compensate for it. The spotlight is on the players now too." "This group, including a few changes here and there, has not played consistently well since May 2021. Bielsa's first PL season is being shown as an immense achievement with the group he had."

    Marsch bemoans fledgling squad

During a recent interview, Jesse Marsch has claimed that 'Brenden (Arronson), Luis (Sinisterra), Tyler (Adams), Rasmus (Christensen) and some of the guys' have a way to go before they can develop into Premier League accomplished players.

I'm sure we can understand that Leeds primary objective, when it comes to transfer windows is to buy players who have time to develop, and improve their squad. They will cost a lot less than a seasoned professional, and will retain a healthy price tag. Their ethos goes out the window however, if it's at the expense of their top tier status.

According to Marsch “Cry started on Thursday and we brought him in again today because we believe he has a big future. “Even a lot of the players, Brenden and Luis and Tyler and Rasmus and some of the guys we brought in, they're all young too and they need to develop into the Premier League-experienced players we know they can become."

“It's difficult to explain why we can't capitalise and why we give certain things away, but I'm not finger-pointing, I'm looking directly at myself. I'm taking responsibility." “I'm trying to push them to understand how to get better and we have to demand that now for the next game. We have to do everything we can again to try to figure out how to get the win.”

Baren Cross is exactly the same as most of us on here. We can all see the tactics are wrong and we overload ine side, play too narrow, dont use wingbacks or wingers. Jammy mentioned on another thread that he watched Champions League games last night an not one club used Marsch tactics, not even the Red Bull clubs. So we can all see whats wring why cant Marsch?

The boards will do whatever is the cheapest option and then add their own spin for the fans. All this ****e we've listened to for several seasons, you can't buy anyone in January, not a good time, You can't buy anyone unless it improves the team. All spin, nonsense

I don't think he would come back even if it was offered (which they'd be mad to do). Two thirds of the starting line up are still Bielsa's players. At least they are not conceding 4,5 or 6 goals a game.

Well if the rumours are true Orta is already in South America. Can imagine the stubborn old **** would freeze out Marsch's players and use the dross he used last season.

I'm praying more for Dyche than him at the moment.

Two months is a long time in football. Leeds United the team everyone wants to see…hmmm

The success of American coach Jesse Marsch's LeedsUnited squad has captured the attention of football fans stateside.

Leeds have two wins and seven points across their first three matches, including last weekend's massive win over Chelsea.

Back in the United States, Americans are beginning to tune into matches in droves - with those surrounding the US Men's National Team particularly interested.

On an episode of his 'State of the Union' podcast, Fox analyst and former USMNT player Alexi Lalas praised Marsch and his team for their courageous result last weekend.

'You're seeing, I think - I don't know if it's the ideal but it's certainly a new and improved type of Jesse Marsch team that enables him to do the things that I think he longs to do in the game. And that obviously is that incredible pressure,' Lalas said on the show.

'Also, it's not just about the tactical part of it, it's about that spirit and the belief that he instills in his players. And he hedges his bets because he gets players that will do that. But I think that it just played out perfectly.

'Just in general, it couldn't have gone better for Leeds... The reason (why) I and so many people are watching Leeds and the reason why Twitter and social media blows up because of that is because of the American influence.

'It's because there are Americans there. We are not Leeds fans, we are America fans and that is why we are watching. And by the way, hook, line, and sinker, because that is part of the strategy of what Leeds is doing.

'Now, it's not at the expense of a good team. Obviously this team is exciting, this team is something that people will want to see. And this team is beating supposed better teams in the likes of Chelsea. I don't know how long this is going to last. I hope it continues on.'

Wonder would Dyche be happy to have that idiot Orta pick new recruits for him in January or is he a man and decides who he’d want to bring in himself

I’m not saying he’s someone I’d have wanted 18 months back but all things considered we could do worse. Too many Leeds fans want us to be playing the same football we played in the Championship under Bielsa.

The PL is a huge step up, it’s a case of survive and make up numbers, maybe get lucky one season and have a cup run or Europa cup game or wait for filthy rich owners.

Dyche: Just reading he averaged a net spend of £9m per season

But risty, we stayed up for two years… the stats say you’re likely to survive if you get past that point.

Sad thing is when you hear the board actually quoting that stat. After Brentford last season It was like ‘hey job done’ we can’t go down now… as if it wasn’t relevant what your team looked like. Classic example of looking at the figures without understanding them. Sides that survive past year 2 have done so because they’ve invested and improved the team. Not scraped by with a shot and aging squad on the last day of the season.
