I honestly really like Gil. He’s looked like he can make something happen when he plays. But I’d be worried about him physically in the PL. Even when he’s played European football he’s looked like a child at times and the PL is a step up in terms of the intensity. I’d have liked to have seen him used more but I also understand the reticence. Conte has said he’s still working to be more physically competitive.
We have a year plus if mounting evidence that Lucas isn't an impact sub. Come to think of it, can anyone name a single game since he arrived when he came on and changed the course of the game? Any moments a la Bergwijn v Leicester? I can't tbh. If the two, Gil is the more sensible option as an impact sub. He showed that against Frankfurt.
I don’t really buy the physical excuse stuff tbh. Plenty of smaller build players have played in the Prem and done well. It’s just another weird excuse from Conte in my opinion and he’s shooting himself in the foot with it, as Gil could’ve provided a much needed spark in games.
The one thing Lucas offers is he's good in the air coming in on the far post, which means that Perisic might have two targets in the area ...and a Korean bloke contemplating slashing his tires before training tomorrow
Nothing personally against him but the fact it’s an ex player scoring is so typical. You’re gonna get fans again cry about what a mistake it was to let him go etc.
