I feel the definition of world class on this board is definitely lowered if they happen to be wearing a Liverpool shirt. World class talent, can't get into his national team.
I've always been a fan so may well be biased, first noticed him playing for Barca and thought he was a brilliant player from the off.
Don't get me wrong, he used to be an astonishing player. I dont think I've seen many better. You still see flashes now, but its not there consistently enough to be still considering in the upper echelon of players unfortunately.
Trent can't get into his national team mate (admittedly, he's not in world class form right now but he has been) Agree that our fans exaggerate our players ability but that's a fan's prerogative; whether that's in a positive or negative manner. Personally, I think Thiago is quality but understand the frustration, I think people would prefer the workhorse midfield we had before that provided the platform for heavy metal football
So, Naby and Ox are back but neither are named in the CL squad which means they'll be injured again before they get chance to play
We can debate whether Thiago is world class until the cows come home, but for me Thiago is a luxury player that has become vital due to various factors.
I knew someone would pop up with trent, but there is no comparison. I dont think a workhorse is needed, but some one that can play for longer than an hour and be fit for more than 2 games in a row would be great. I dont think that's a high bar to be honest. There is little point continuing to rely on any player that just can't stay fit.
Just cos they are back early but mello is out? Hardly a crime is it. There's literally the matter of a week really in it. Just luck or otherwise imo
Personally, I don't give a **** whether one of our players is better than everyone else in his position or not. If he's doing a good job for us then all is good. Thiago is a very good player but world he get in a world squad? No, and that's my definition of world class.
He is "different gravy" though.. isn't he? There's players you'd pay to watch and players who are just there when you watch a game Thiago is just that good at the stuff he does do that at times you'd have loved to see him in his proper prime for us. I equate thiago today with litmanen 20 years ago. He was well ****ing past it when he arrived but you could tell. Yeah... different gravy.
