I don’t think we are surprised that we will lose at Burnley. Injuries and lack of attacking threat has created a team only good enough for mid table.
Lack of structure, weak midfield, too obvious and predictable, limited movement. It’s a manager bereft of ideas and a team lacking in confidence or freedom to play to their strengths. Smith out.
I just don't see City even making the playoffs this time round. Performances are so disjointed and unconvincing (even when winning)
Yes, but lots of teams have nullified them this season (eight draws). Shouldn't we be aiming to do more than Birmingham or Cardiff aim to do?
All credit to McCallum for coming straight back in after 3 months out and playing a full 90mins with energy. Tomkinson also looked pretty good, strong headed clearances certainly. Cantwell lots of energy with his pressing again tonight. Sargent needs to start up front, we look so unbalanced down the right as he doesn’t track runners and leaves Aarons exposed.
I lost count of how many times we had possession on halfway, yet the ball ends up going back to Gunn. Well into double figures, I'd wager. Desperately poor performance.
You yourself said this would be incredibly tough to get anything from an in form Burnley. It would have been foolhardy to go full attack away from home, we kept them largely at arms length albeit surrendering a lot of possession and unfortunately lose to a penalty. Of course we should be aiming to win, the game plan was to soak up pressure and hit them on the counter. It didn’t work, but we were a penalty and a Pukki finish or a Todd prod away from achieving it. Burnley got relegated with us last year but have also been a regular PL team in previous years, they should therefore be stronger than us in theory.
I agree. If anything we had the better chances although they controlled possession. McCallum and Tomkinson played very well under a lot of pressure and Gibbs and Onel looked good when they came on. Sadly, though our lack of midfield play meant little service to the attacking players. Very disappointed in Sara and Núñez has fallen off over recent weeks.
1950canary has a French swat team assembled outside his Chateau just in case he clicks on the stream The lucky bustard, he'll take a look at Teletext tomorrow and reassure us we have ideas above our stations
Injury situation doesn't sound good. I think this is part of the frustration this season. This league is desperately average and even through injuries, bad penalty luck, etc, we're still not far away. 6 defeats this season already, but all by a single goal. Man for man, I still don't think there's (m)any squads better than ours, but barely a single player on our team is hitting the levels they've shown to be capable of. Our team looks like less than the sum of its parts, whilst other teams in the league are managed well enough to elevate them beyond the level of their individuals.
One thing I think has been a massive factor in so called weaker teams is the 5 subs. I recall our last season in the Championship, when we were often struggling to break teams down for 70mins but we were wearing them down with relentless possession, we then capatilise on a weary defender. That is no longer possible as half the gram can be refreshed. Yes it’s the same for us but with our injury situation we are often bringing in equivalent or lesser talent.
It's not gone unnoticed that Burnley are now playing like we used to play and Norwich are now playing like Burnley used to play.
You could see that a bit today. Onel comes on for Todd, a few mins later Burnley bring on a fresh full back. The other advantage that we had under Farke is the fearsome levels of fitness he demanded, which began to tell later in games. Whether the team are less fit now is hard to say, but the subs available nullifies that as a way to gain an advantage.
On a positive note, we are still 8 points above the relegation zone. Well, that's me all out of positivity . Let's stop excusing performances and results due to injuries , poor refereing and bad luck as the writing has been on the wall for some time now.
