In view of Fergie’s twenty five years in charge I thought I’d mirror what some of the papers have been doing by constructing a team of Fergie’s best and worst signings. Just for fun/interest like. This is not to include any player brought through the ranks or anyone already there, e.g. Robbo/ Gary Nev, just his purchases. THE BEST; - 4-4-2 Schmeichel/ Van Der Saar (can’t separate them) Paul Parker Gary Pallister Nemanja Vidic Dennis Irwin Andrei Kanchelskis Roy Keane Paul Ince Ronaldo Eric Cantona Ruud van Nistelrooy THE WORST; (more difficult) – 4-4-2 Massimo Taibi Eric Djemba Djemba (not technically a right back admittedly although he played there occasionally. Not technically anything really) Pat McGibbon William Prunier Quinton Fortune (bit cruel really but not one of the best left backs, he wasn’t THAT bad either) Karel Poborski* Kleberson Juan Veron Liam Miller Bebe David Bellion There are **** loads to come up with if you put some thought in. *Poborski replaces the legend that is Ralph Milne*
Mine? Quite difficult actually. Schmeichel Neville Irwin Pallister Vidic Giggs Keane Scholes Ronaldo Cantona van Nistelrooy Not sure about the worse.
Mate, you clearly missed the bit about it being purchases and not ones coming through the ranks. i.e, no Neville, Scholes, or Giggs. He's signed plenty of **** players so don't be shy. I found dodgy defenders to be hard to find.
How can you put Veron as one of the worst mid-fielders Fergie bought? Yes he was a flop, but he wasn't that bad, he was better than the likes of Liam Miller by miles.
Best : Schmeichel Parker Irwin Stam Vidic Kanchelsksis Keane Ronaldo Cantona RVN Cole Worst : Taibi Prunier Blanc ( same two full backs as you although not strictly fullbacks ) Bebe Miller Kleberson Tosic Forlan Bellion I know Forlan and Tosic have gone on to do well but then didn't do it for United
Miller is in there. Whatever his reputation is, he proved to be a poor signing so it was easy really.
Yeah, finding poor centre half signings is hard but I thought Blanc turned out ok in the end. He started poorly but ended up playing a fair part in a title winning season. IMHO of course!
i wouldnt have veron in there whatsover, gibson and and webb were far worse in my opinion as were many many others ie phelan Problem with veron was...keane, he wanted to sit in front of the defence
Ok, we all know that he should be a great player. Was he a success though? No. I don't believe money changed hands for Gibson either so he's not valid. Webb could have been good but for a career wrecking injury with England. It's all opinion and mine is that Veron was a flop. He should have been the answer to our prayers but he wasn't, and so turned out to be a poor signing.
