Good Morning. It's Monday 24th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds nosedive towards the Championship after latest defeat A chorus of boos echoed out, and dark storm clouds hovered, as plucky Fulham came from behind to comfortably beat Jesse Marsch's deflated side. The Cottager's should have taken the lead early on. Robinson's cross into the Leeds Utd penalty area was flicked on to Reed. The midfielder was given the space, and time to chest the ball down, and drive a half volley past the advancing Meslier. Fortunately, Roca was on hand to make an incredible goal line (half) clearance; only for Pereira's rebound to be smothered away by Koch. Leeds took the lead on 20 minutes. Rodrigo played a delightful through ball to Harrison on the edge of the area. He opened up his body to try and bend his effort past Leno, but was partially blocked by Ream. The loose ball fell kindly to Rodrigo, who nodded the ball home from close range. Their lead would only last six minutes. Mitrovic outjumped Ayling following a well executed corner. His glancing hearer seemed to go through the hands of Meslier, as the Serb celebrated his ninth of the season. Minutes later Fulham should have taken the lead. Pereira broke free from Cooper, and charged halfway down the pitch. With only Meslier to beat, it looked as if the visitors would take a 2-1 advantage, going in at half-time, but the young shot-stopper made amends. Both teams had chances to retake the lead, shortly after the break, the best of which fell to Bamford (who came on for Rodrigo with 25 minutes left), only for his effort to be snubbed out by Leno. Disaster struck with 15 minutes left on the clock. Pereira's cross found the head of De Cordova-Reid, and suddenly the game, and the crowd turned. Desperate now for a point, Marsch threw on Klich (who had as much influence as a chocolate teapot), and soon, Fulham had added a third, courtesy of former Chelsea star Willian. Leeds added a consolation goal in injury time, but it was too little, too late. please log in to view this image Marsch - The board and I are unified During his post match press conference, Marsch pledged to 'stop the bleeding'. Unfortunately for the American, whilst he believes to can patch up his players with band-aids (plasters), the realisation that most of his squad are in need of life support, goes amiss. It's nice to see a Football Manager and his board to be on the same page, but there comes a time when questions arise regarding the suitability of both, and that time is now! Marsch may be out of his depth, but as they had done in the previous Summer transfer window, the board have failed both the club, and it's supporters. According to Marsch:- “We’ve had clear discussions that we’re in this together. I understand the frustration from the fans. We’re equally frustrated but we’re together. We’re unified. The players have been great, too. I know it hasn’t been easy for them or us but we believe in them; I just have to find ways to help them get better. “It’s painful right now and I take responsibility. I have to find a way to put us on the right path and stop the bleeding. We have to do everything we can to try to figure out how to get the win.” “But, in our weak moments we look naive and vulnerable and are too weak defensively. I take responsibility. I have to find solutions, get momentum and kickstart our season.” “If we were getting killed in matches we’d have more to worry about but it’s not like that. We’re creating some good chances – and I believe things can change quickly. “Today’s game was in the balance but Fulham are a team with confidence and it showed. Part of the problem is we’re so anxious to get forward so quickly the game starts to open up and we struggle with transitions.” please log in to view this image Marsch favourite for the chop Jesse Marsch is 2/5 favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked following their winless run of eight games left them joint bottom of the top flight table. Fulham weren't "plucky" they were average but took advantage of Leeds errors and anxiety The ball didn't fall kindly to Rodrigo, he followed in superbly to blindside the Fulham defender and kept his composure to score a good goal Don't get dissing Klich in a game where the team's confidence was shot by the time he came on The attack on Bamford is totally unnecessary, he's not up to speed yet and Marsch Ball doesn't allow for any crosses into the box Marsch is in a huge hole of his own making, he looked broken at the end and I'm not sure he knows how to fix this ... more importantly, the players looked lost and that's either down to not understanding what they need to do or not believing in what they are told to do the football is pretty brainless and ineffective, and if Marsch can't see that crowding the middle isn't working then he needs to rethink his career choice
My grandson has just signed for Oldham's junior lot age 9......he might dispute that assertion that they are at Leeds level
Good luck to your grandson Oldschool. I'm not a fan of clubs selling false dreams at such a young age but hopefully he's both level headed and one of the lucky ones that makes it
Just to clarify. Young boys/girls shouldn't be signing for professional clubs at a young age in my opinion. By all means recieve some coaching and have progression monitored (that's all they're doing anyway) but children should be free to play and train when and wherever they choose without signing anything or having any obligation to any professional club. Local junior leagues now operate under a system where if a youngster wished to switch teams they can do so at any time up until mid march of the current season, just takes a few days for the transfer form to go through that's all.
Below, you will see the statistics from your favourite Leeds Utd defenders (and Firpo). Which letters correspond to Struijk, Firpo, Cooper, Kristensen, Llorente, Ayling and Koch? Click the data to enlarge.
How long have we heard that? We've had years of people making excuses for Bamford. He has a 20 percent shot-to-goal ratio but doesn't make the other 80 percent. Then you get people coming with he did this and that under Bielsa but he's not scoring. He's a striker and his job is to score goals. There's a reason he's been on loan 7 times and not signed for any of those club?
The reason Bamford had so many loans was because of the Chelsea model ... flood their Academy with as many talented players as they can to stop rivals getting them ... sign them to 5-year contracts then loan them out to lower division teams if they're not going to be in the first team Chelsea will always spunk £70m on a proven striker than give an Academy player a chance ... they'll do this every season if the have to ... Tammy Abraham was a real talent for Chelsea, yet they loaned him to Villa in the Championship, then played him a bit because they had the transfer embargo, then sold him to Roma to bring in the Germans for a combined £150m Bamford needs better than Marsch is dishing up
I get the Chelsea model with their kids however Bamford had 7 loan spells and nobody signed him. We all know he wouldn't break into Chelsea. Still, nobody came in for him. There's a reason why... Bamford needs better than Marsch... no it's the other way round
Chelsea put their kids on big money and long term deals to protect their investment. Clubs that loan them usually cannot afford the wages, even of they wanted to sign them and could afford the large transfer fee. Unless you think these young starlets would take a massive pay cut to move out because I've yet to see any of them do so. However they do eventually sell them rather than let them leave for free, this is the point where the player has to accept lower financial terms, but as he's getting a new long term contract elswhere the numbers add up. Example; Chelsea sign Bamford (age 18) on a 6 year contract in 2012 (£1.62M) Multiple (7) loan fees were then received. Chelsea finally sell Bamford (age 23) with 1 year 5 months remaining on his contract in 2017 (£6.21). Good business all round by Chelsea and if Bamford had turned out to be first team quality then they'd have had a top striker for peanuts.
He just loves football and wants to play no matter where....home,park, training, match, and it is Oldham who are currently out of the league so nobody is expecting next port of call to be real Madrid's youth just yet.....
Twitter talk is... If we lose to Liverpool then Marsch is gone and Dyche is set to become manager on a 2 year deal. He wants to bring in Chris Wood and Adam Flint
