Perfectly summed up in my opinion. I honestly wish Labour were a credible alternative, or the Lib Dems. Right now we dont have a credible option at all and it is a sad state of affairs.
Steve Baker saying Boris is a no go. That should end the speculation really. If he and his ERG pals jump behind Sunak then I reckon we have our new PM.
I'm also sure that even on this site, were there to be a General Election, then it's a response we would have to endure for some years from the 'My Party Right or Wrong Brigade'. And. to be fair, they would have a point. The damage that Dizzie Lizzie has done in four weeks will take a lot longer to reverse and correct.
I don’t think it ever will mate, I have never seen anything in politics ever reverse to where it was, I can guarantee we will always be worse off than before, but those rich bastards won’t be.
My Labour MP has held the constituency for about 19 years. The last time I saw/heard him mentioned on tv, in media or social was when he was accused of attending a 100 yr olds birthday celebration in an old peoples home during first lockdown ( he didn't, he just went to the home and stood outside well back from the window just la short time ) , Where he's been for 2 1/2 years since, I've no idea.
Fair enough mate, everyone is entitled to their own opinions etc and time will tell. Nobody could have expected the pandemic etc but they just seem to be completely winging it and ignoring expert opinions on matters such as the economy and fracking etc.
I wish they were good enough even to wing it, everyone of them is s hite, it’s just a shame they don’t know it.
Can someone educate me on this as I'm interested to learn about these things. Truss was essentially sacked by the party and now it looks like Rishi is getting the job. This despite the members voting against him. Don't the members get an opinion on this or is this all normal?
The election of a Party Leader has always been rather murky. For The Tory Party, it used to be that when, for example, a PM decided to quit, his last act was to advise The Monarch, who he should appoint as his successor. In theory the retiring PM would take 'soundings' from senior Party Grandee's and the one with the most support, got his nod to The Crown. I THINK that Lord Hume was the last one to be appointed that way. Then they changed it to MP's selecting their leader. Now it seems to be some sort of mystical mix of Party Members and MP's. The Labour Party USED to have their main paymasters, The Trade Unions, having a substantial say as they had a vote for each of their members who subscribed to the Political Levy. This was the discredited, (by their opponents), Block Vote. This was abolished about twenty years ago and as far as I know, it is now only The Party Members who have a vote. From this you will note that the make up of Party Members is likely to determine who might get selected. To use crude generalities, the tory members, particularly in The Shires are relatively wealthy respected members of privileged communities. Liz promised these right wing self righteous Ladies and Gentlemen, lower taxes for the wealthy and to stamp down on handouts for the shiftless. The loony left inhabits The Labour Membership like a virus and from time to time get out of control. The vaccine needed to control them has been Niel Kinnock, the regretfully short-lived John Smith and now Sir Kier. (Please Note I am refering to Card Carrying, membership paying Party Members rather than the run of the mill Party Supporters).
I have been on holiday in Suffolk, Norfolk and Lincolnshire recently, the roads are atrocious, in a lot of places two cars can't pass, dual carriageways are few and far between. The A1 up through Northumberland has needed to be dualled for decades. The current Transport Secretary, is the Tory MP for Berwick. The A66, from Scots Corner is mostly single carriage, it is often closed. The A69 East West is a joke. The tories have just spent £500m on one tube/rail stop, Bond Street....Correction original cost was £110m it went £550m over budget £660m Levelling Up?
My policy is to expect them to do good things for which I'm quietly grateful ... ... but criticise them for bad things, whoever's in power. I'm worn out with this lot tbh.
Exactly how I feel mate, I vote for the party I believe has the best policies that will benefit me and my family and dont tie myself to any one party. However I don't think there is a single party I would be happy to give my vote to. I don't think I could vote tory considering the state they are in, Labour have no appeal especially if I voted for them I'd be voting for Ian lavery to be my local MP, this is a bloke that makes Boris and Trump look like guardian angels. So I may just vote for the green party, why I don't know but why not
