Does the BBC work for or against Britain. All I see is criticism but they do make good television documents.

Morning all. Its dark, wet cold and miserable here in cambridge. As a result most of the county has come to a standstill because people refuse to get wet! TGIF!!!

Morning all. Very wet here, and i need to get to Vicarage Road. I just don't know if i can be bothered with the traffic! It's rubbish at the best of times. Hmm. Meanwhile, i'm packing. We're off to Leeds this weekend to visit Mr H's twin and sis-in-law. Usually a fairly dull affair, but i'm really only there a day and a half as i'm heading back early sunday for work. My brother in law isn't too impressed at my diet specifications, though he doesn't seem to understand we're coming to see them, not to eat! lol

I was sorely tempted to get a ticket for Middlesbrough, being as we're going to be so close, but i think i'd have been shot if i'd even mentioned it, especially as we're on the telly, so i'm keeping my mouth shut. The sacrifices we make for family!

start polemic/ The Beeb tries to, and should, maintain an independent view point. It has often come into conflict with government agencies, notably security services. I think this is a good thing. A national broadcaster which is the lapdog of a government is more than half way to a totalitarian regime.
Self criticism and analysis is the only way to improve and move forward. / end polemic

What goes on in Iceland AK? Is the telly any good?

AK - Yes, the BBC makes some of the best programmes anywhere in the world. My gripe with them is their middle of the road, liberal stance when it comes to current affiars and politics - they should take to task and question harder anyone who puts themselves up for interview, otherwise they are just promoting an opinion. For instance, during the recent Dale Farm episode, why did they not ask the obvious questions such as:-

    - Why where there no traveller men to be seen?
    - How do the protestors earn a living

Another example is they continually interview people have just completed a survey on some pet topic, that shows some "amazing" statistic or claims to show the cost to the country is gadzillions of £'s. Yet they are never questioned in any detail as to how the data was collected and analysed and what assumptions were made. I have come to the conclusion that they no longer employ journalists that are trained to dig in and ask questions, but rather they employ presenters - and of course to be totally PC, they have to follow their diversity targets as well....
