The point is we don’t have enough of them, hospitals can’t release patients into care homes because care homes can’t get staff, this in turn tied up hospital beds. The population is getting older, the situation is only going to get worse.

Society needs all sorts, not just entrepreneurs, and unless we value (pay) people appropriately society doesn’t function properly. I hoped one good thing that may have come out of COVID, (remember we clapped the frontline workers) would have been the realisation of how reliant we are on them. What short memories we have. Just to say “it’s their chosen path” is actually very selfish.

I’ve an idea - why don’t we let trained health professionals from the EU live and work in our country to plug the shortfall?
Whilst we are at it, why not welcome Delivery Drivers and other semi-skilled workers - even fruit/veg pickers to fill the gaps in other industrial sectors?

…. oh - wasn’t that the case once?

Apparently there isn’t enough room to allow foreigners in, think of all the extra services that’ll be needed. Still I suppose once we’ve finished with them we can always send them to Rhwanda.

surely a better way is to value our frontline workers more, and pay them a decent salary. Even Boris was advocating a high wage economy, not a race to the bottom.

If it’s Boris you’re referring to, the fixed penalty notice is already been given, so guilty on that score. He’s lied in the past, that’s a known, anyone who follows politics and watches parliament will know he is economical with the truth, many of his own MP’s know he’s deceitful and unreliable, that’s why they got rid of him.

it’s also a fact he’s being looked into for allegedly misleading the house, in terms of him making a come back as PM is it really appropriate at this time, whilst he’s being looked into, no. If he had any decency he wouldn’t even try as the government can’t afford those kind of distractions, now more than ever.

Nothing to do with our borders allowing so many immigrants over, creating an over populated society.. to cope with the resources we had in place? Catch 22 imo..
more people = more resources required.

If we have space and the resources and the jobs that are required for the good of the Country and they have the skills to do them and we’ve done everything possible to ensure the people of this nation the opportunity of such vacancies.. then yes..

I’ve no objection to allowing overseas applicants for jobs in the scenario you paint, but it shouldn’t be limited to EU nationals, and as long as it doesn’t lower the salaries on offer.

We had the Europeans here working in care homes and driving lorries etc. They got furloughed or by choice went back to their own countries during the the pandemic. Then when tried coming back under Brexit rules was not allowed.
So we started with delivery driver shortage, led to having to pay the Brits higher as they needed more than they were getting on benefits and to be enticed away from other companies. Led to cost rising to where we are now.
    Countries ****ed.

Wages were kept low by using cheap foreign labour previously, care workers and lorry drivers deserve decent wages, they were among the frontline workers we all clapped during COVID, why shouldn’t they be able to earn decent money, do you have any idea how many hours lorry drivers work?

I used to be a transport manager in my previous life so I know, 15 hr days are not uncommon.

Can still be done, as long as breaks taken correctly and spread over the week, I don’t know the exact details anymore but stepson is a class 1 driver still.

One of the things I am intrigued about, and never seems to be mentioned in relation to illegal immigration, is the benefit system of each country those people have gone through to get to us.

The UK has, throughout history, taken in the persecuted and those willing to work and be incorporated into our way of life.

But the present situation seems to be different in that there is this perception that a significant proportion of illegal immigrants are here purely for the benefits we dish out.

Is that actually the case? Whilst there are obviously genuine cases, are we really considered an easy touch and that is fuelling the increase in numbers coming here?

I honestly don’t know but would genuinely like to know the facts!!

Why do they tramp across countrys and water to get here -simple the land of milk and honey at us the taxpayers expense.

How any government is allowed to give our taxes to these scroungers that have given nothing to this country is absolutely wrong.
