Morning all. The intense press isn't as effective in the PL because the players you're pressing are a much higher standard. Every manager facing us knows when the trigger is so, if they're clever, they'll use it to take 4 or 5 players out with a simple one two, or one two three, and then leave us open to the quick counter. Occasionally they'll get caught but they have to be disciplined at the back. Invariably they are. JM said that they can't score from the corner flag but if you let them attack your wings and pump balls in to your box good strikers will score. Because managers know that we want to play narrow and pack the midfield they stick their wide men to the touch line. It either spreads us wide or leaves them open, both of which happened last night. We do have the players. Cooper makes us solid at the back, even with Firpo that so many hate. Roca gave the ball away, Llorente was a liability, Rodrigo played another suicidal pass but you still get on Firpo's back. He's been injured a lot since he's been here and I'd prefer an upgrade but he's not as bad as he's painted. I really don't understand why JM continues to persevere with Joffy and Summerville. They're not bad players but we have other options to try, Perkins and Mateo are scoring for fun and Gnonto is a current international. I think we're at the point where we need to take some chances. We might uncover a diamond
If JM does get the boot, and I think he's on borrowed time, we really need a manager with PL experience. experience. I do think we could attract a decent name given our history and now that we have a decent academy. I see what Eddie Howe did with Newcastle and I'm not surprised. He kept Bournemouth up for years so everyone knew he could do the job. We need to find one like him. My worry is that the 49ers are invested too heavily in JM and might leave it too late. On the flip side JM might do what he did before coming to us and admit that the job is too big for him.
Despite the Guff Dyche takes he's a good coach. Honestly, I think we'd struggle to get a top-end coach at the moment. I've now seen Spurs struggle to get a manager last summer and now Wolves. Our 2 choices would probably be Gerrard or Dyche and I don't want Gerrard
Just looking through the list for Leeds connections (please dont consider any of the names in this thread as serious options ) Brian McDermott Garry Monk Lee Bowyer Nick Barmby Marcelo Bielsa However if we want to continue with our American theme, how about Paulo Nagamura. Played for Arsenal (reserves) and the majority of his career in the USA and has just left the Houston Dynamo's as coach Bobby Willliamson ( Ex Chester manager, who said when booed by Chester fans, "well if they want entertainment they should go to the cinema ), who also managed at International level with Uganda and Kenya Or just because I like the name , Fred Grim. I'm sure Orta could persuade one of those to give us a go
Maybe another stint in the championship and press the reset button wouldn’t be all bad. Opportunity to move out a lot of the great unwanted
I've got a West Brom supporting mate, who thought the same a couple of seasons ago. Go down, come back stronger. Didn't go as he hoped
We need to stop throwing money at the youth, we’re not in a position to have that luxury at the moment. Develop our own for now, if one becomes good great. Every season we’re splashing cash on U21 prospects.
He infuriates me, he’s usually lingering around the centre circle, he has the pace of a snail and never gets back. He’s reading of the game, positional sense, tackling, heading, pace, he hasn’t a single attribute associated with a LB
Sack race betting Jesse Marsch - 11/4 Brendan Rodgers - 7/2 Ralph Hasenhüttl - 7/2 Steve Cooper - 7/1 Thomas Frank - 9/1 Frank Lampard - 12/1 Antonio Conte - 16/1 David Moyes - 20/1
Brendan Rogers - No idea what’s gone wrong this season but two 5th place finishes with his first two seasons at Leicester He’s surely a game or two from the chop, would anyone take him?
Honestly Rich when you were posting that Marsche would be gone by the WC it seemed highly unlikely. Now it would appear to be almost inevitable.
Surprised Frank is as short as 9's. Especially as they've said they would refuse Villa permission to talk to him.
I so wanted to be wrong mate, I think we’re going to see a few teams dumping their coaches before the WC so the worry will be if we all go for the same bloke. Hindsight is great but I’m still hurting we missed out on Eddie Howe
The board are hardly going to say "we're looking at a new manager" whilst JM is still in post. What an utterly pointless tweet.
Cresswell had 3 good games for us at the start of the season, but since then he's been gash, and wouldn't be bothered if we sent him back I January. Same with Shackleton.
