House of dragons now past episode 9 Spoiler: Spoiler So this is a show that has no real surprises and the books are done and dusted and the fact is the winners are already known. As such this whole season has really been set up of season 2. it feels like it as it moved though generations of kids and changed actresses and so forth and so on. this was a move active episode where things were set in train and it delivered a spectacular moment or two. However...... while we FINALLY finally get to the point where the boring king is dead we have struggled though to this point where we have seen wilds swings of character development or utter changes in their outlooks. Aemond for example. the pirate eye patch is now somehow an honourable man placing his brother on the throne but wanting it for himself whereas just a show before he's beating up kids (as a kid and having his eye put out etc) I cannot figure if they want us to cheer for him or hate him. he is like an other daemon. daemon is set up for half the series as a slimeball and is then relegated to wistful lover and runner awayer and is now at Rhaynaera's side and we all bloody well know this ends with their child o nthe throne so..... and again we have Rheanys who has own ambitions but create the biggest spectacular moment of the episode. yet fails to torch the hightowers Nobody is "the hero" like GoT. It was pretty clear in thats show that you had a delineation between good/ bad or whatever and who to cheer for or not. in this show nobody is or any merit at all. they are all over the place with dropping in **** about ****ing over feet or kids fighting in pits and stuff and its got bloody no bearing on stuff really. theres is almost a desire to hark back to the "best of" game of thrones with a littlefinger character, a few dens of iniquity etc This was no doubt the best show of the season but it is still pety poor.
Andor: the filler in the sandwich? The inevitable plot development post action. Quite good, different level of interest now that the game is afoot
Decided to give The Watcher on Netflix a go after all the hype. Lots of twists and turns, allegedly based on a true story but suspect it as enhanced for TV. Not bad 6.5/10
Watched Detective Knight Rogue (2022) with Bruce Willis.Been a fan of his movies but this needed to be his last, hardly involved in any action and limited lines his illness is obviously effecting his ability. You can clearly see it's not his usual self,so sad to see. 4/10.
House of dragons episode 10 Spoiler: spoiler Well that's seasons 1 over. a sort of dramatic episode however...... a) we get treated to a graphic scene at the outset for no real reason. Par for course with GoT etc but this was a whatever moment. b) the guy walks right up to you. right ****ing up to your door and you don't stick his head in a bag??? both know full well he is the power behind the throw not the fake queen or the drunk son. that makes no sense at all, none c) we get treated to very silly child walks in and not getting right back on his baby dragon when he sees the biggest **** off dragon on the planet bar none. He knows who's it is but walks in anyway. the fling and chomping is fine. it gives us an insight that the control is not as expected. Overall it was playing a game with the two targarians but we already know that they win in the end. a power struggle to set the queen up ok but really this is an ender show to put the players in place for the next season. Episode 9 is the more defining episode i suppose. It was ok but it really doesn't do much for anyone in terms of being the ones to root for. I guess when we already know the winners and losers giving us the hero to root for is pointless.
Overall though House of Dragons was very good. Good character building throughout the first season and even though slow at times in happy with the overall pace of it. I don't want all out action all time time. The finale was superb imo tile final scenes really tense and we'll done, the (the ****ing right then) look from the Queen at the end was very good.
I thought it mixed but improved once the jumps were complete. I just felt it missed that shock moment like got where the insestuous couple throw a 10 year old out a window. The eye incident was huge imo. The next jump then turns this all about and the guy then looks a honorable guy and then the very next episode he's acting like a bit of a vengeful brat again. They've gone into full on civil war
I think you're harsh on it and would go as far as to say it's a better first season than GOT which was very slow at times. The final chomp was superb.
The Walk In 8.8/10 all episodes in ITV hub or the first 4 of 5 on catch up. Stephen Graham and Andrew Ellis both superb in this.
Under The Banner of Heaven looks good, sort of watched the first episode but Mrs luv and the kids kept disturbing me so I'm going to binge it all next week.
it was absolutely. the entire scene for the second the kid lands is superb. As a better first season overall? the chopping and jumping didn't help at all. too much invested in young girls and could have been 1 episode. the aging of the king done purely to get that final skeletal figure was fine but very drawn out, but dameon doesn't really age at all I would have thought perhaps a better way to do this was ot intro the adults first and dream sequence them back to younger selves as was established in the 3 eyed raven reveal in GoT It would have had the decrepit king harking back to "better days" on his death bed etc seeing the younger kids more briefly and establishing the key things that happened to get them where they ended all hating each other. the final supper scene really se sup a break in the show between what comes after (all killing each other) and before anyway... I felt it very dull at times over the course of the season, but you could be right that GoT season 1 was not an epic production done based off the standards that came before, it was a smaller budget smaller show about to explode onto the big time and needed the shocker scenes
