Shelvey hatrick tonight at Elland road am wellpleased for him. Severely underused by parky at the valley, scandalous the way he had a game sub appearance here and there when such a talent.
Shelvey was under-used as the Murray board didn't want to risk him getting a serious injury to scupper his move to Liverpool. Franco are you forgetting the elusive deal arranged by Murray that we would get 1st choice on Liverpool youngsters being loaned out....apparantly it was going to be different from the Valencia or Inter Milan arrangements.....
Martinho, incidentally I love how the club tried to make the purely coincidental signing of Eccleston seem as though it was a part of the Shelvey 'link-up'. Shelvey is one of those ex-players who I don't actually feel bitter about, in fact I really wish for him to do well. He was introduced to our first-team at possibly one of the most angry, stressful points in our clubs history, a time where the players/management and fans weren't necessarily on the same side - hence a lot of abuse and anger towards a child in Jonjo Shelvey. I'm suprised he's seemingly making such a great career for himself after some of our fans confidence-shattering responses towards him.
FFS...!! Surely someone at board level had the savvy to insert a sell on, or at the very least a performance related additional payment. Whenever anyone reminds me of the Inter link i automatically think of Nicola Berti and i come out in a cold sweat. Don't reckon I'll sleep tonight now!!
We could have gone up if Parky had known how to use him, although I'm sure Houndal will leap to Parky's defence.
There must have been add-ons based around performances in the deal that took him to Liverpool, otherwise who ever sanctioned the deal should be shot! Although loan games won't count to any clause it is great to see him performing well, I always rated him and was excited by his progress until the Liverpool deal went through (at such a strange time in the season). I think Parky viewed him as a luxury player we couldn't afford to have in the team (not a view I shared) all of the time but he would have been the first name on my team sheet a lot of the time as you need someone with a spark!
Jonjo was a regular during the first part of the season, then ended up on the bench and bizarrely was sold before the season was finished, so he couldn't play in the playoffs. Something must have been going on behind the scenes, so I suspect Parky's hands were partially tied.
I remember all those rumours about Liverpool telling us we couldn't play him, but as far as I'm concerned that's all they were, rumours.****ing **** we were going for promotion!
Add ons are at 250k stages. Not sure what, but I guess 20 league games for Liverpool, England cap etc. I believe there is a sell on also. Think it was confirmed at a Q&A, but someone might know more details?
Lots of misconceptions on here not really based on what happened to the player at the time. WWOCB has got it right in that Shelvey went slightly off form and then was getting some abuse from sections of the crowd, particularly some in NU from what I remember. Shelvey's attitude then was always spot on, he wanted to play even when Parky's hands were tied with the sale to Liverpool. Contrast his behaviour to Wright, that's why Shelvey deserves every success in the future.
Shelvey played in our 7 out of 7 wins at the start of that season then got dropped and used intermittently from then on..i`m no parky hater but blame him for that no one else.
Mikey, I'm sure somebody else played in that fine start to the season then got dropped after Colchester? A tall Spanish centre half wasn't it?
pretty sure there are at least 4/5 250K installments owed to us based on league appearences for Liverpool, and 10 (or maybe 20?) percent of the profit of a future transfer fee. All in Shelvey could well earn us £3-5m
