Interesting reading through and a lot think Carvalho had a good game. I thought he was anonymous offensively and lightweight defensively. Can see a good player in him but feel he's a skilful young lad caught in the headlights atm
My eldest is a Man City fan and I've been telling him for a while now, Haaland is a better goal scorer but Nunez is a better player. Darwin is getting better with each game, he'll be a beast when he finds his shooting boots.
I think in terms of general output yesterday he didn’t do loads. But I just liked that when he got on the ball he was really comfortable and able to carry it up the pitch. Has some skill and dribbling ability. Closest can compare him to is coutinho in that regard. Was exciting when he was on the ball, drew players to him which created bit more space. Excited to see him develop over season, just about finding a role for him. Is he able to play Cm in a 3 or is he a wide player? Bit like coutinho JB that regard, can seemingly do a bit of both jobs atm but hasn’t mastered one just yet.
Think it’s what Klopp said that you need to stop the supply. Haaland is rarely going to pick the ball up and create chances for himself like Ronaldo/messi/Suarez types. But stick him in between the posts and get the ball to him and he’ll stick it away. No doubt he’s a quality striker. Anyone that says otherwise is just lying to themselves or trying to be different in my opinion. Is he 40/50 prem goals a season good on a regular bases like Ronaldo messi were In la liga? Not sure in that, but at city he’ll get 25/30 every year because they just create so many chances. No if you take de bruyne, fodens, silva out that team, he may go down to 20 goals a year because only getting 2 great chances a game instead of 4.
it’s already started. They analysed how VvD and Gomez closed the space that he likes to run into. He could have still scored two or three mins! He will slow down for sure but he is a monster, and will always net a lot of goals.
I said similar last game. I do think that he's getting in the right positions offensively though. He was in perfect position for a rebound on a couple of occasions and that was how he scored v Newcastle, right place, right time.
Carvalho did better yesterday. thats all. give him little credit that he worked had. Its the same as nunez, all he praise is nice but he runs from in to out and the angles narrow. salah makes he opposite runs and gets better chances. nunez was far more impressive in his work and leading the press than he was in his chance conversion.
Carvahlo was the one that set up Nunez chance just after he scored by closing down the cb which lost the ball. He was also ready for a cut back v city from Nunez who decided to go across goal to TAA. He’s def doing the right things and could have had a couple more goals / assists to his name
We were markedly weakened when Thiago and Nunez went off. Says quite a lot. I know we have to rotate, but it says things about the squad depth and injury situation. Nunez will get better and better.
VVD went mad it him for bottling a challenge at one point too followed by trying to gee him up. Gave him a aggressive double fist pump whilst shouting "come on"
Was good to see. He's very young and slight of frame and he will have to toughen up. I noticed he was easily pushed off the ball a few times and when he tried to stand his ground, he got a foul called against him. It's seems to be a regular tactic now with the opposition, fall over and you will 9 times out of 10 get the foul called. It doesn't happen the other way around.
Apparently Nunez was taken off due to "tightness in his thigh" so may not appear against Forest as we will need him fit for the CL game.
The thing that VVD reacted to... here didn't even go dier the ball, he just stood off. Rightly bollocked imo. But yeah, he needs to bulk up and be braver
This might be true but didn't vvd "just stand off" saka in minute 1 v arsenal? Hopefully VVD has reached a level of actual desire to do the job again that he's turned a corner himself.
really can't see him playing traditional CM though could see him as an attacking midfielder just as he played some of the time for Fulham .
