I think you may be underestimating how rich villa are. Both Tuchel and Poch arent as far out of their league as you think. Villa is a very attractive prospect right now IMO. They have a lot of money to spend to try and become the ‘best of the rest’

His point was Tuchel was seen as their back up. Tuchel isn't going to be back up for anyone.

It kind of goes back to the point on us apparently being the worst team in the league but that instantly changing overnight with a new manager. Is that the case with Villa? That they are actually really good and Gerrard is utterly inept? I'm not sure managers move solely for transfer budgers.

I presume there is no smoke without fire in this case though. But I was more focused on the notion that Tuchel would appreciate being the backup for Aston Villa - not matter how much money they have. Given his record if he has even the slightest interest in them then he should be their first choice. Surely?

Yeah. Although i did put that both seemed unlikely in brackets which is probably a bold claim.

He'll have lost it if he goes there. He can go anywhere he wants - just needs to wait for the vacancy. If he did go, Villa can expect an Ancelotti-style exit as soon as one of the big jobs becomes available. If they care about long-term planning, they'd do better targeting someone else imo. MP would do better to sit back, enjoy the World Cup, and ponder a multitude of jobs in the new year, including the England post.

One thing we seem to see more often in modern football is managers taking a break, learning new skill sets, assessing their options and then many months later, picking up a new job. They earn enough money nowadays that they don't need to rush things. Poch, Tuchel - they will bide their time until a big option comes in. Even Dyche is not jumping straight back in.

Don’t they also carry on getting paid until they get a new job? It is always reported as getting a massive one off payment but i thought that in some cases what actually happens is they just carry on with their weekly or monthly pay until they get a new job ?

For the gamblers amongst us, Ralph now as far as 8/1 to be next manager sacked as everyone seems to think Gerrard is gone.

If we lose tonight Ralph is gone - so you are almost looking at the odds of 8/1 on Bournemouth to win... not bad!

It's such a short gap between Bournemouth and Arsenal that I can't see him sacked before Sunday regardless of the result tonight TBH so I don't think you're quite right there.

Fair enough. I think the atmosphere around the club would be so toxic if we lose tonight we will have no choice but to part ways.

Hopefully we win and never find out!

I don’t think a win would or should save Ralph tonight either. Though regardless of the result, I wouldn’t expect Ralph to be fired on the back of tonight. Very much hope that there’s a lot going on behind the scenes to bring in the right man for the job, and that that is what defines when it’s time to say goodbye to Ralph.

That tackle was awful from Mepham. Ref totally missed it & booked them both for the handbags.

For our season, tonight was potentially very important. But I'm not sure it changes too much where Ralph is concerned. Just four more league games remain until the WC break, and none of them are easy. It's not unrealistic to suggest that 3 wins from 11 will become 3 wins from 15.

We've got a brilliant run of fixtures straight after the WC. But if we're going into that WC with 3 wins from 15, I'm not sure Ralph will be overseeing those post WC fixtures.

Yeah, I'm really not wanting to be negative when we've ground out a hard fought three points. But Bournemouth were and are pretty bad (regardless of the recent run of form) - they were everyone's nailed on relegated team at the start of the season (and I think they will go down). The harsh reality being, if we play like that against Arsenal, they'll murder us, because they have people who can play a final ball and finish.

Now I'm not expecting us to compete too much with the likes of Arsenal (though we should compete in any given game), but the performance tonight, rather than the result, still leaves me very concerned. Sorry. And I'm usually a right old happy clapper too.
