    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 18 October 2022
    Kick off - 7:45pm

The Swans’ recent resurgence came to a shuddering halt at Turf Moor where they came away with their tails very much between their legs after a 0-4 hammering.

Following that thumping defeat by Burnley, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is another tough looking fixture, this time at home to fellow Play-Off hopefuls Reading.

On Saturday, Burnley moved to the top of the Championship as a brilliant first-half display saw them cruise to a dominant 4-0 win over a poor Swansea team.

The Clarets were 2-0 up inside 30 minutes, scoring with their first two efforts on target thanks to Vitinho's header and Jay Rodriguez's close-range finish.

The Clarets capped a fantastic first-half display with a goal in time added on, as Ben Cabango's misplaced pass caused panic in the Swans’ defence and Zaroury finished emphatically - his first Burnley goal capping a dominant 45 minutes.

Rodriguez scored Burnley's fourth goal on 58 minutes before Joel Piroe was sent off for a stamp on Josh Cullen.

As a result, Burnley moved top of the table and the Swans dropped to 8th.

Whilst the Swans were losing at Burnley, goals from Matt Phillips and Taylor Gardner-Hickman secured managerless West Bromwich Albion only their second Championship win of the season to deny Reading the chance to go joint top.

Following the sacking of Steve Bruce on Monday, interim Baggies boss Richard Beale could not have asked for a better start to his spell in charge.

Midfielder Matt Phillips opened the scoring midway through the first half with a fine strike after going past a Reading defender in the box.

The second goal came against the run of play, with the home side enjoying their best spell in attack, Taylor Gardner-Hickman dispossessing Jeff Hendrick and drilled his shot into the bottom corner for his first senior goal.

Victory sees the visitors move out of the relegation zone and up to 20th, with Reading dropping a place to sixth.

The Swans have played Reading on 86 previous occasions, and the overall record is ‘all-square’: 34 wins apiece and 18 draws.

Without doubt the most memorable of those previous encounters was the Championship Play-Off final at Wembley when the Swans ran out 4-2 winners, following a fantastic introduction from Kev Johns:

In the corresponding fixture at the Swansea.com Stadium last season, Reading ran out 2-3 winners:

Turning to Tuesday evening, given that Andy Carroll invariably scores against the Swans, I’m going for a hard fought 1-1 draw. <cheers>

Thanks Taff. We have to learn from Saturday, so it's a 2-0 win for the Swans

Now my re-emerging optimism has been slammed back in it's dark dungeon, I'm just hoping for a positive reaction to that lesson from Burnley. A draw is definitely possible. The players must show some fight.

Oh, and stop gifting goal chances* :headbang:

    * unlikely.

Swansea City head coach Russell Martin makes three changes to his starting line-up for this evening’s Championship clash with Reading.

Harry Darling, Luke Cundle and Ollie Cooper all come into the team following the defeat against Burnley at the weekend.

Kyle Naughton and Olivier Ntcham drop to the bench, while Joel Piroe misses out through suspension.

Ryan Manning misses out through injury, while Joe Allen and Jamie Paterson remain sidelined.

Steven Benda continues in goal, with Darling joining Nathan Wood and Ben Cabango – with the latter making his 100th league appearance for the Swans – in the home defence.

Joel Latibeaudiere and Matty Sorinola are the two wing-backs, with skipper Matt Grimes and Jay Fulton in midfield.

Cundle and Ollie Cooper will provide support to Michael Obafemi in attack.

Swansea City: Steven Benda; Nathan Wood, Harry Darling, Ben Cabango; Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Matty Sorinola; Luke Cundle, Ollie Cooper; Michael Obafemi.

Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Olivier Ntcham, Liam Cullen, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Fin Stevens, Kyle Naughton, Josh Thomas.

Reading: Joe Lumley, Tom Holmes, Tom McIntyre, Jeff Hendrick, Tom Ince, Yakou Meite, Andy Yiadom (captain), Tyrese Fornah, Mamadou Loum, Junior Hoilett, Amadou Mbengue.

Substitutes: Dean Bouzanis, Andy Carroll, Shane Long, Lucas Joao, Baba Rehman, Ovie Ejaria, Nesta Guinness-Walker.
