Tory, Sir Charles Walker in the debate on the Public Order (Repression of the People) Bill.. "They leave me absolutely cold. In fact, I go as far as to say they are appalling. Absolutely appalling, because there are plenty of existing laws that can be utilised to deal with people who specialise in making other people’s lives miserable … The idea that in this country, we are going to ankle tag someone who has not been convicted in a court of law ... I mean, I tell you what, those Chinese in their embassy will be watching this very closely at the moment, they might actually be applying for some of this stuff when we pass it in this place as I suspect we will. This is as unconservative as our budget of a few weeks ago. This is not what the Conservative party does, we believe in proportionate laws, like we used to believe in sound money. So I will be voting against this. I will be joining with honourable members across the house to vote against this piece of legislation." Mate, you're really on the wrong side of the house....it's time to leave the lizards and go and sit with the human beings. .
"This is as unconservative as our budget of a few weeks ago. This is not what the Conservative party does" Mentions two things that the Conservative Party has either done or is attempting to do. Claims that they aren't what the party does.
My father-in-law is in the same position. He can't or won't reconcile the facts with his partizan political beliefs. He prefers to see each decision as misguided, rather than enactment of policy. "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
Ok, let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say that all of their decisions are misguided. That's still ****. Get rid of them.
I'm against people 'joining' political parties. It destroys their brains and they end up thinking with their arses.
It does seem to go a bit football fandom, doesn't it? They may like blue, be completely unethical and racist and love tyranny, but they're not Chelsea. Hang on, are they Chelsea? Chelsea certainly votes Tory.
She's now polling nearly as badly as Andrew, rather ironically. He had a favourability rating of -80 earlier in the year. She's at -70. I think covid's only at about -50.
Love them or hate them the Conservative Party did represent quite a wide spectrum of opinion and views up until Brexit. They were then taken over by a right wing rabble who have remained in control ever since. The Tories were never a "nice" party but their one claim was they could manage the economy but those whose idea of sound economics was Brexit took control and what the Tories are now is a direct result. Until they lose the next election and get rid of the clique who now control them I think they have zero chance of success - Liz Truss may be dreadful but no other potential leader is more than marginally better.
Even their claim of managing the economy is false, as Thatcher gutted our manufacturing industries and left us reliant on imports while Major privatised anything that wasn't nailed down which is why rail fares and energy bills cost whatever their owners say they are going to cost, while under Cameron our GDP growth slumped in spite all his austerity measures
