Keepers are getting bigger and more aware of the penalty kickers choice, not an easy task, maybe down the centre for a law of averages. Didn’t Aaronson take one in Australia and hit top corner…. Unsavable spot kick.
Just had a look at the data for our first season back in the Premier league. 7 players scored more than 15 goals that season. 2 of those players were from Spurs, the other 5 coming from Liverpool, Scum, Leicester, Leeds, and Everton. The average amount of goals for a clubs top goal scorer was 12.6 (so 0.2 higher than last season) and the average amount of goals from a clubs 4 top goal scorers was 32.65 (so 1.15 higher than last season), Man City who won the league has a top goal scorer with 13 goals, their top 4 goal scorers accounted for 49% of all their league goals that season. Chelsea who finished 4th in the league that season, had a top goal scorer with just 7 goals, their top 4 goal scorers accounted for just 43% of the league goals they scored that season. The average amount of goals a clubs top goal scorer contributed towards their teams total league goals for that season was 25.3%. 6 of the top 10 clubs top goal scorer failed to achieve that target. McGoldrick of Sheff Utd, had the best percentage, scoring 40% of the clubs goals that season, in which they finished bottom of the league
I'm just confused as Fcuk as we played very well but we don't or can't punish teams when we are on top. Have we been unlucky? well you could say yes but it's a growing trend and sometimes you have to question it. We are playing like Brighton last season playing good football but are weak as pizz in front of goal. Some of our efforts on goal are very worrying it' powder puff stuff, lackadaisical. there just seems no composure it's like we are shooting with a lead ball. on another day yeah, we could go out and score 3-4 goals but there is no consistency in it. it's generally bad days in front of goal rather than good. Bamford frustrates the hell out of me he makes a massive difference in the team, but he isn't doing what we need him to do and bury good/half chances he has a very laid-back approach I honestly never trust him in a 1 on 1 because he always seems to make the wrong choice his decision making is pizz poor. that's the difference between a decent striker and a good one, but it is what it is. We can't change anything right now. but that's 2 games running now we should of had the full 6 points and we have picked up 0. it's all good and nice playing decent football but the object of the game is to win games and score goals. Something we are struggling to do. it's not about practising shooting it's about being composed in front of goal, improving Decision making and having some bloody balls.
Bamford should have scored (missed pen). Sinisterra could have scored (shot blocked but going wide). Summerville could have scored (blazed over the bar). None of them hit the target from 10/12 yards out and the goal at their mercy.
actually Jammy, because of the players in the way, the ‘easiest’ chances yesterday or should I say statistically the best scoring chances all fell to paddy.
Been like that far too often Jammy. None of ours capable of hitting a ball first time. Always need two or three touches to get the ball under control. Not many pl teams will afford you that much time
I hate VAR and we’ve been on the end of some shocking decisions from it but I have to be honest not in that incident. Bamford fouled Gabriel, who didn’t really kick out, so both got booked for squaring up afterwards. One look at the replay and it was obvious that it was going to be overturned.
Due to my broadband being down still not see the game BUT, what would have happened if the match was played without VAR as that was the plan if it couldnt be linked again. Would Bamford's goal have stood, would we have won another penalty, would the red card have stood, was there any other stuff VAR did against us?
The Bamford goal would still have been disallowed as the ref blew for the foul. The handball incident wouldn't have been given as a penalty, as neither the ref nor linesman saw the incident, and it was only given upon VAR review. The injury time penalty would have been given and Gabriel would have been sent off. I wouldn't have said VAR was against us in the game, I would say it got all the decisions correct that it was brought in for
The commentators were saying that was never going to happen, the match would have been abandoned. It has to be played under the same competition rules as every other match in the division, i.e. with VAR and the officials miked up so they could communicate with each other. Their worry was, say for example the final decision (penalty and sending off of Gabriel) and we end up staying up by a point, EPL thought the relegated club would sue because the win was played under “different rules”. Likewise if Arsenal won the league and say Bamford’s goal should have stood. A can of worms that they would never open.
sorry but if the handball penalty would not be given then play would not stop and the passage of play would be altered.therefore the second penalty would never have occured due to the change in the space time continuem.
Not sure why you are apologising Wakey ??, but I accept it anyways I agree that you are correct in stating the later incidents may not have happened if earlier passages of play had been different. However I was just answering Doc's specific questions regarding the incidents he referred to and basically letting Doc know that we were not shafted by VAR in yesterday's game
