Good Morning. It's Monday 17th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Power cuts, penalties and prejudice Power cuts, penalties and prejudice - just another day in the life of Leeds Utd, as their winless streak is set to continue to a third month, unless they can defeat Leicester City on Thursday evening. Leeds outplayed the Premier League pacesetters for much of the game, but as we have come to expect, individual errors continue to cost them dearly. This time it was Rodrigo's turn to turn villain. His spectacular right to left wing pass landed in no-mans land, and was quickly intercepted by Odegaard. His sublime through ball released Saka, who passed Cooper like he wasn't there. Just as it looked that the England winger had run out of space, his rasping shot somehow flew past Meslier, and into the roof of the net. Leeds thought they had levelled immediately after the break. Second half substitute Bamford smashed the ball past Ramsdale, but the goal was chalked off for an alleged infringement on Gabriel. With 30 minutes remaining, Leeds were awarded a penalty after Saliba was adjudged to have controlled the ball with his arm, in his own penalty area. A dejected Jesse Marsch looked on with his hands on his knees, as Bamford dragged his spot kick wide. Aaronsen and Summerville both went close before further drama, in injury time, threatened Arsenal's frail lead. Gabriel blocked Bamford's run, to allow the ball to bounce to Ramsdale. The Leeds striker bundled into Gabriel, sending him sprawling to the floor. He then kicked out at Bamford who went down like he'd been shot. Gabriel was given his marching orders, and for the second time in the match, the ref pointed to the spot. Unfortunately for Leeds, the man in black changed his mind after reviewing the incident on the monitor, on VAR's advice. To rub salt into the wound, Gabriel's red card was rescinded too. please log in to view this image Marsch - We're on the wrong end of a lot of decisions Following the 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal, Leeds Manager Jesse Marsch admitted that Leeds are on the wrong end of a lot of decisions right now, but thankfully refused to go into detail, sparing him an imminent FA charge. He was also diplomatic when asked about the injury time drama, claiming the incident was too far away to see properly. "I have no idea, I haven't really been able to figure out who was given the red, it was too far away from me. Some of these decisions and, I mean, even the fact that for me, the penalty should have been called right away. It was clear but yeah, we're on the wrong end of a lot of these right now, but I'm not going to cover too much referees." please log in to view this image Bamford would have taken second penalty During his post match interview, Leeds skipper Liam Cooper revealed that Patrick Bamford was set to take Leeds second penalty of the match, until the referee cruelly changed his mind. Having already had an effort chalked off, and dragging his first spot kick wide, you could be forgiven for believing it wasn't Bamford's day, but the Leeds No 9 was desperate to make amends, and had no hesitation in putting himself forward. “Pat has had a rough year and nobody works harder. “Strikers have patches of form and when we got the second penalty before it was overruled, Pat was the first one to step up and want it and that is credit to him. “That’s the type of characters you need in a team and we had that today.” please log in to view this image
Really pissed off with yesterdays result. Threw away valuable points. Bamford would have taken a second penalty eh. Tells me all I need to know about the quality of the kicking ability of the others. His was a pathetic penalty
Just throwing this out there early doors but we were absolutely brilliant yesterday. We are a really good side. I've never been a fan of Bamford but to be honest we create a **** tonne more chances when he is on the pitch. We can't score any of them at the moment like but we create loads and as daft as that seems, creating chances on a consistent basis is very difficult to do at this level. Historically Bamford goes through these patches where he just doesn't look like scoring but once he does he usually goes on a little run. Rodrigo and Harrison exactly the same. Unfortunately for us, those three are all having a dry spell at the same time. The results will come if we continue to play like we are. Be confident guys, we have a really promising young team coming together.
Morning all we threw the game away simple as that. As for the second penalty it never was one so shut up Marsch. The ref just did his job and listened to var. Summerville is a good finisher at u21 level but is out of his depth in the prem. Meslier was beaten by a great finish struck hard and fast. Bamford may want to take a look at it for technique. Aaronson had a shot which was so weak it never made the target. Marsch as coach will of course not blame his players.
We scored 42 last season and are on target for similar unless the strikers start doing what they’re paid to do. Put the ball in the net. And a blind man can see Bamfords not a penalty taker
He's been injured for a chunk of that. I'm not sticking up for him, I've never really rated him but we look better with him on the pitch. It's been obvious we've needed a striker for about 5 years now. No 16 year olds who might be ready by 2026, a ready made striker. Rodrigo has been a terrible signing for us.
Gnonto lost his bench spot to firpo. I can see no sense in that and would prefer never to see him again. Drameh if fit may ask to leave again in January.
Good morning all Is Gnonto injured ?, as i can't for the life of me understand why he is not been given a chance to shine, hell he might be poor, but we will never know at this rate. Still gutted after yesterday, totally shocked by playing Arsenal off the park, and not coming away with a single point
Yes, he came on as a second half substitute v Brentford, scored in injury time, and injured himself in the celebration.
The point about paddy has been made loads of times. He himself can be infuriating because he does miss a disproportionate amount of big chances. He tends to score very good goals… some guys are instinctive finishers and he isn’t really. But…. The team seems to function better with him leading the line and making those runs in behind. He has an unusual set of attributes in that he’s a decent hold up target man who can bring others into the game AND he’s mobile enough to press hard and run the channels. So he’s hard to defend against. And hard to replace. We can and will get frustrated with him for missing the sitters, but joffy can’t do the other stuff he does, rod can’t, gnonto won’t be able to. There aren’t many out there who can. So…. play a better finisher but team will play worse and not create the chances for them? Or play paddy, look the better side, but have a lot of hard luck stories. I wanted Martin terrier in the summer, not like for like with paddy but a good all rounder and better finisher. He didn’t fit the investment profile though
If you can't hit the target from the penalty spot you should never be allowed to take a penalty again. I agree about Bamford being an asset to the team but a striker he isn't, we've needed a proven goalscorer for a good few years now Arsenal didn't beat us, we beat ourselves
That would rule out most penalty takers unfortunately, as they all do it at some point… but paddy’s hit rate from the spot is poor. Rod takes a good pen but was off the pitch. You’d think sini or Harrison should be able to take a decent pen.
The thing is Wakey if we were at Anfield or citys ground and it was the other way round I bet that they would have got the peno and one of ours sent off. There were three players at fault for their goal IMO, Rodrigo for the awful crossfield ball, Coopers slow reaction and Mesliers not standing tall. Bamford should have gone down at one point, but didn't, then he falls over when he shouldn't. What beggars belief is that we have a young Italian striker that wasn't even on the bench.
He's not a striker either. It's all very well praising his workrate and running off the ball and holding up the ball, but I'd rather he put the ball in the net. if he's unfit play him in the u21s, if his confidence is low, well don't let him take a bloody peno.
