Well yes, this is the whole point really. By hook or by crook, we've managed to stay in the league (by and large, although a lack of investment now means a very different thing as the league has 'progressed' to a lack of investment in the early 90s, say). So my point being, I kinda get what Semmens was alluding to, and I certainly am not going to translate it into some great insult that others have.

    Wolves won.

We are in the relegation zone!!!!!! Panic!!!! Ralph out! Semmens out! Sports Republic out!!!!

    No signings.

    No money.

    No clue.

Unless we win 9-0 tomorrow I think the world will end.

    We're doomed.

Ah, much better. Feel really good to get that off my chest.

I'm happy with the direction that the new owners are taking the club it's just that it hasn't translated to performances and results on the pitch....yet.

Me neither, although I still think it unwise to talk in those terms. I always think aiming for the stars and you may just hit the moon, or whatever.

After the utter ****-show of form end of last season, it comes across of how dare fans want to be better than current results/performances. When in reality, we really have a point to be pissed off just now. It isnt really quality leadership to be saying ‘what if this is a good as it gets’ (great movie, btw, one of my favs). He should I still leadership and vision, and the vision he set was a dross mediocrity that we are lucky and to make do with what we got. Surely, we are allowed to dream just a little?

Which was always the risk with our strategy.

Went for my usual Friday night pints with a few mates and, as usual, chatted football for awhile. As I thought they all thought we’d be mad to sack Ralph as we aren’t even the bottom 3 (I know we are now), and we shouldn’t expect much more than survival

I think you will see a better perfomance from Saints tomorrow but am realistically not expecting much in the way of points. I do not feel we will witness another listless performance .

We need our senuior players to stand up and makea good account for themselves. I think they have been absent so far this season. We might snatch a point and come close at Bournemouth. I do not feel that thie is a weaker team than last season, The poorer individuals have been shipped out. My issue is that there is a decent young squad there and that a better manager would be getting more out of them. Just think Ralphs has reached the end of the line and someone needs to pick up the reins to drag this team up the table where they belong.

I agree. But many feel this squad is poor and keeping us up is a big ask.

Well said Laces! In particular the reference to Wolves, Leeds and Forest. Everton and Aston Villa fans must be feeling more than a tad disgruntled to. Happy ****ing clappers? Nonsense indeed..

I found this on a Chesterfield FC forum, amusing and to the point. No apologies whatsoever if anyone is offended.
" A happy clapper is someone that Is more likely to cheer the team than boo them. Stay away from them and look out for people who don't smile much. You will be safe around them.
A happy clapper might refrain from making nasty and cutting comments about the management and the players both on this forum and at the match. Idiots that they are!
A happy clapper may sometimes be guilty over being 'over optimistic' and has an expectation that things will work out for us. Simply naive eh?
A happy clapper might be constructively critical when the team has not played well. Sod the diplomacy, let em have both barrels.
A happy clapper has a tendency to be more patient with the team - the players and the management. Tut tut and shame on them."

"Whilst I think I am a happy clapper, I sometimes come into short periods of remission - times when I feel annoyed and frustrated and I feel like calling the centre forward a blinking idiot when he misses from two yards and I feel frustrated with a certain midfielder (the crab) because of his negative sideway passes. When i am suffering from happy clapper syndrome, its funny but i regard these sideways passes as positive because they keep possession."

PS I'm now contemplating my level of wokeness and will share the results of my deliberations later.

will watch with interest. Ralph has had to drag this team out of some serious slumps during his tenure. This will be telling.

Certainly not the usual excitement ahead of a game. Let's hope we see the old hasenhuttl saints that we once loved.

Same. I still have excitement, but it's not as high as it usually would be.

JWP is badly in need of a good game.

I haven’t seen Saints play in a competitive match for 20 years (thanks your majesty!) so although I watch almost every game live on tv I’m undoubtedly the ultimate plastic, however when we played Guangzhou in Macao a couple of years ago I had the good fortune to be able to chat with Martin Semmens one on one for a good half hour uninterrupted.
I am the ultimate cynic, but I would crawl over glass for that man. I know it’s just a job, but I believe if you cut him he would bleed Saints. He was passionate about Ralph, suspicious of Gau, positive about our future. It’s hard to express here, but I’ve never had better vibes from someone about our club. I know, I know… but I’m far from gullible and I got such a positive feeling about Saints future from talking to him.
The only small negative would be that Jan Valery was being touted as the next big thing from Saints.
Oh well, I guess it was all ****!
