As far as I'm aware, the origin is DMD's match thread contributions where he posts a range of 'facts', some more accurate than others. I think the original thing about Portugal was when we were playing Blackpool and one of the 'facts' was that Blackpool has more beds than the whole of Portugal. There was some debate about that one and it's just spiralled into a running joke from there.

Like all games at present, I have no idea how this one will pan out, If Elder is not available, then maybe go with 3 at the back. But generally, we look light at left back with Fleming out still, unless they give Matty Jacobs a go, he's 21 now and did well at Gatehead. Who gets in the midfield I'm not sure, Docherty should be given a chance, and I think you have to put your faith in Seri. He is quality and needs playing time to get his confidence back up. Whatever formation Daws goes with we need a win desperately, so full-out commitment is needed.
