Errrrrrr i forgot to mention Preston were unbeaten away from home until they came up against us last night. Let that sink in impressive win that against the best defensive unit in the championship if we go on the stats so far.
We looked the better side from start to finish-give the boys credit and the manager for changing it. It worked
Birmingham and Cov were not difficult fixtures! They are games we should have taken 4 points from if we have ambitions of being in the top 10, we got 1 point, draw from that what you will.
Love this, at HT it's not Nige's fault the team are poor, but come FT with a better second-half showing, it was all down to Nige. It's so laughable
And yet we beat Blackburn away, I agree though Coventry & Brum we’re both poor displays. The whole division seems inconsistent, there seem to be strange results most weeks.
No matter what the league or form table says, I don't think any game in the Championship is ever a forgone conclusion.
So you blame Nige for your comments off players passing poorly Nige aint on the pitch kicking the ball the eleven players are.
The problem we've got is, one minute we look a decent side, flowing, high press, assured.....the next minute we look like a pub team (Brum) 1 win in 6 is hardly credit worthy and most times when the manager changes things, we don't look a lot better. Inconsistency and a fragile defense has been our issue and that's down to NP... I have and will give credit when the manager addresses our frailties (not just after, a one off decent performance)
Funny - not many people said that about LJ when we lost games under HIS tenure!!! Seriously though, the manager is responsible for picking the starting 11, deciding on the formation and dictating the strategy/style (whether to high press or sit back and hit on the break etc). He is also responsible for changing the formation mid-game and deploying subs when and where necessary - either if things are not going to plan, to replace a player on a yellow card or sometimes to try and contain a counter-attack and shore up the win. The manager (and his assistants) will also be heavily involved in training - working on areas for development and practicing set pieces - both conducting them and defending them. The rest is up to the players - and they are human. We all make mistakes and players are no exception. If the manager gets his select 11, his formation, his tactics, his CHANGE of tactics and his subs right then there's nothing he can really be criticised for. If we still lose despite that then it really IS the players' fault. However, when we see the same errors, repeatedly costing us points, you have to question the manager. Last night worked well - Nige and the boys did good.
At our level players are inconsistent, that’s the thing, sometimes they are world beaters, other times panel beaters. We did look better with a proper defender in Klose playing central defence, I also think Bents doesn’t help our confidence at the back, controversial, but that’s my opinion.
I agree - if they were consistently brilliant they'd be in the Prem not the Championship. Interesting re: Bents - I have read quite a few criticisms of him recently with interest, but not really agreed with them. He does fluff his lines occasionally, but he's saved us more than he's cost us IMHO. That having been said, Max did well last night - pulled of a great save - and by all accounts we did look better. Whether that's because Bents wasn't there - or because Klose WAS there - or both - I can't say.
I’m also not sure if we were a bit better in defence through either, or a combination of those changes? I did note in the first half, a much improved performance from Vyner, he got his positioning spot on, especially as I thought Sykes was caught out of position going forward far too many times.
Agree, thought Vyner payed well. A couple of wayward passes, but mostly because no one was offering themselves. It helps if you have options when on the ball.
It’s all about opinions, I realise I’m the one in the minority on Bents, I think he is a very good shop stopper and his one on one’s are top class. Where I differ from most, is I think many of the saves he makes wouldn’t be needed if he commanded his area better, and was more decisive. He shouts a lot, but I don’t feel he gives confidence to his defence, and his distribution at times is awful. He certainly doesn’t inspire confidence in me. I also feel at times, especially towards the end of games when we’re trying to see out a game we drop too deep defensively, shouldn’t he, as the goalkeeper, be more proactive in ensuring the defence doesn’t drop so deep?.
NOT A SECRET NOWADAYS coming out is usually a party down the pub .. or at a party down the pub .. or maybe even after a victory in a football team ...........
a new contract? disclosure of his wages? although he payed well? maybe players are bidding for a place ... using MONEY
Will concur is very good at closing up shop when the chips are down .. distribution is a bit wayward .......
