Mentioning Rodrigo in the same sentence as a comparison with Haaland? Tell me what you’re drinking because my Guinness clearly isn’t strong enough <cheers>

LoL if you read the data from the Athletic is clearly states Rodrigo and Haaland are in the same bracket for goal conversions 25% or one in every 4 chances. Sorry it doesnt fit the narrative but not my data set. If you also compare Bamford and Rodrigo over the last couple of seasons Rodrigo is a mile ahead….. but then again the difference between Spains No9 and Englands <laugh> however a couple of wasted seasons at Leeds hasnt helped his cause but then again Bamford has hardly helped the cause for all last season and this so far

Brendan Rogers will be the more realistic target, Steve Bruce, you may joke but we’d still have more points on the board with him in charge than Jesse

    Yeh? prove it!

I actually don’t think Steve Bruce is a terrible manager and the barcodes fans treatment of him was shocking. The West Brom job is the easiest gig in football at the moment. They batter everyone every week, miss loads of chances and let soft goals in. They have issues at both ends of the field but their luck will turn and they’ll rise up the league whoever takes the job.

Rodgers has a more valuable squad but a lower league position than us. Leicester are the worst defensive team in this league since…. err… bielsa’s Leeds. If you were a Leicester fan you’d be offering to drive him to Leeds, Rich.

    https://www.infogol.net/en/leagues/english-premier-league-table-2022-23/434

For those that love their predictions… this is the infogol league… in the far right two columns (EXP and FCST) they give xg and forecast positions respectively . The EXP column tells you what position the team should be in based on xg (for and against) for matches played. The FCST column predicts end of season position with an algorithm that considers:
    - your current points total
    - performances of the sides you have played
    - the performances of those you have left to play.

Obviously it gets more reliable the further into the season you go.

Based in this We are 14th in the league: Deserve to be (EXP) 15th,: forecast (FCST) to finish 15th.

    Bottom 3 FCST to be:
    Forest Bournemouth Leicester

doc… it doesn’t actually say that, it says Rodrigo and haaland both have 4 shots per game this season.... rod’s scored 4 goals from 23 shots this season that’s 17% shot to goal ratio - higher than his overall rate over his time at Leeds which is more like 12%.

So this Season he’s scored from around 1 in 6 shots.., since he joined he’s at 1 in 8. Admittedly not all played as striker.

    That’s 18 goals from 136 shots

Over the same time period bamford has 19 goals from 137 shots

only part of the story obviously but those are the stats - very similar

Haaland? 15 goals from 38 shots: 40% shot to goal ratio. Insane.

Truth is and joking aside, I don’t know who would be best to replace Jesse, I don’t know if we have the best available in him already.

It’s a catch 22, you drop into the relegation places and hope to attract a top manager when they’re thinking I don’t want a relegation on my CV

It’s all hindsight, did Bielsa have too much of a say in the transfer market, should we have replaced him sooner, should we have got Eddie Howe, easy to reflect on those things now.

I was reading an article the other day, Orta approached Jesse and said we’re always looking for the next replacement, that includes coaches and non playing staff. We’ve crunched the numbers of 42 coaches and you’ve come out top as a future replacement.

I do find it strange when you think over the last three years the only first team striker we’ve signed is Augustin, maybe the number cruncher wants sacking.

Bottom line is, I genuinely don’t see Jesse being here come the World Cup break. I don’t know if we can attract better, I don’t know if we have money to back a new coach, we could end up worse off.

Just as it was a season too far for Bielsa, (I do believe) Radz should have used his get out of jail card and handed us over to the 49ers. I don’t feel for a second they’ll be the best owners in the world, but they’ll have the funds available that Radz doesn’t wish to spend.

Radz has been a breathe of fresh air but he’s done his job, it’s time for the next level, someone needs to tell him quickly you can’t keep throwing money at u23s hoping one will stick, not when the first team is still lacking in a few areas

… yeh risty, the number of managers who are successful at a high level consistently over their careers is very very small. You get a lot of bright young things that are successful for a time with the right players in the right circumstances, then it fades away. Gradually the game moves on, or they struggle to get the right set of players all playing their best at the right time again. Suddenly they don’t look so great.

I think from the outside, it’s often really hard to tell how convincing a manager is, when all you see is the public face. Jesse obviously majors on a particular playing style and team/confidence building approach. At least he has one. Whether it's the best one for us at this time? Who knows... it's at least one that in theory suits the profile of the playing staff.

Would Jesse look good at city or Newcastle with a blank cheque book, of course he would. I could probably win the title with city. Tradesman only as good as the tools at his disposal

Hope we didn't waste money sending scouts to watch him. With 15 minutes left the Rangers crowd couldn't be bothered staying to watch <laugh><laugh>

Like that, think I had us to finish 15th at seasons end, in the other thread. Tbh, I’d be more than happy with that.
Understand the concern about strikers, mentioned earlier. Always felt we were short and needed decent competition for Bamford. But understand the “pathway” argument for the U23 crop. Personally I don’t think any of the kids are yet “premier ready”, though I’d love them to prove me wrong.

Personally I think Bamford has to play, as he’s the only forward we have to hold the ball up, and as we saw on Sunday has a good turn of pace if put through. Rodrigo is pants in that role, but think he’s the better finisher. Jesse has to find a way of improving Paddy’s fitness levels, without it costing us. Over to you Jesse….

So he came on at 1-1 at half time. Walked off at 1-7. We might get him a bit cheaper now!!
