He's sort of right, but Shota wanted him anyway, it was quite clear to everybody that the lad is a cut above anything else we have and has massive potential. It would have been daft not to sign him permanently.

Acun said it himself, he "wants to make people happy". He wants to be the one who brings players in, sets out the style of play, brings success.. He basically wants as much credit as possible for when things go well. Thats fine when you get it right, unfortunately he's now starting to get backlash for when he gets it wrong.. and rightly so imo.

The circumstances around the Shota sacking seemed a lot like the issue was him not wanting to play a back four. We'd played back 3 for weeks while Shota insisted we didn't have the players for a back 4. Then suddenly at Swansea we played a 4 and brought in Vale out of nowhere, we played even worse than we had been doing and soon afterwards it was agreed that Acun and Shota were no longer aligned in their thinking.

Wouldn't be terribly surprised if the issue with new managers is them being told they must play a back four because Acun thinks it's more attacking.

And to be fair if it is about a back 4, it's the same as what most on here were demanding too.

    So a bit like Ehab's "We're a 4-3-3" club.

Can’t believe he’d be telling Pedro he doesn’t have the authority to change formation?

So you're saying Acun learned from the best? :)

I'm not convinced by all this Acun wants to pick the team garb, yes he is excited, yes he is keen and yes he wants to be loved by the adoring fans hence why he is trying for high profile signings, managers, and trips abroad.

But he has Tan alongside him, a man that knows football, to advise, and he has supported football long enough to know that managers make clubs what they are supported ably by the owners.

It is important he gets this right, so Acun, choose wisely, take a step back, listen to your advisors then reap the rewards. The majority like to see what you're attempting to do, and appreciate it, but a word of warning, too many cooks spoil the broth !

Yes, although for all Ehab's extensive list of faults, I don't think that was ever a real thing.

    So this is worse? ;)

Joking aside, I'd really hope Acun isn't really insisting we play a certain formation.

Whether it was enforced or not but Ehab 100% said this in a public interview that we were a 433 club. He talked about it being throughout the club from juniors to senior team.

I think he said that about the style of play rather than about 4-3-3 specifically, but in any case it was just him trying to use football buzzwords to sound like he knew what he was on about at a time when we were playing poorly. I don't believe he would've been able to recognise whether we were playing 4-3-3 or not.

I read an article about Carlos Carvalhal and how he had reinvented his managerial style while at Rio Ave and then Braga, which led to success there.

He said he no longer has a preferred system, he sets his teams out after studying the opposition and basing it on where gaps in their spacing can be exploited and sets up to specifically target those spaces. He said he now trains his players not to be (for example) a "left-back", they're instead trained to be able to cover multiple duties to exploit weaknesses in spaces and to notice when and where gaps have been left in their own team, to cover.

I quite liked the idea of us getting him in and broadening the skillset of some of our more one-dimensional players.

I'd hope not too. I think specifically in terms of leaving the manager to control the tactical side, Acun probably is worse from the sound of things yes. But obviously he's significantly better in every other way.

I worry without a full time and experienced head coach in we soon we may be doomed. I have begun to have the same feeling as the McCann relegation season.

I don't think things are that bad, but I do agree that the managerial position needs sorting sooner rather than later. Letting things drift is not doing the club any favours IMO. Now that it seems as is Martins is likely to go elsewhere, lets move on ourselves. Wilder's odds seem to be shortening

If there is one guy it won’t be, it’s Chris Wilder sadly. He left a cushty role at Sheffield United due to the suggestion of a Director of Football being put in place. Absolutely no way he would work with Acun and Tan with the way they operate.

I don’t think things are that bad yet but it’s becoming that way. There feels like an inevitability at the minute that I felt during that season, particularly at the back. Feel like everytime I go we’re bound to concede 2+ and you don’t often win when that happens…

We’ve gone from an owner that didn’t want to be involved at all, to an owner that wants to be too involved.

The outcome is the same, problems on the pitch!

For **** sake it’s not hard; hire experts and let them do their jobs. Your job as an owner is to provide funds. Nothing else.
