Frankfurt rotated heavily on the weekend and it cost them badly. Lost 3-0 to bottom of the table Bochum, who had yet to win a game before that.
A "must win" game, so Conte is going to have to play a very strong starting XI regardless of who the next PL opponent is.
By Conte standards so far this season we rotated heavily too! I expect us to start with the same XI as last week
I’d like to see 352 again to start. I think 343 with our current crop of midfielders is badly hampered when we don’t have Kulu starting as we struggle with ball progression and retention, and he’s not going to be in shape to start if he only started training today. Unluckily, I think Lucas is the closest replacement for Kulu, as while the Brazilian’s output is much more erratic he does bring the same ability to glide past players and has the same unpredictability to his game. So having them out at the same time was costly. If Frankfurt match up with a 343 then that could work for us in the game but I don’t know if they will. Plus this is a must-win. So I’d favour trying to control the game a bit more from the off and throwing on another forward if we need to early second half.
Like Hudd I'd go 352 but only on the basis Emerson doesn't start - which unfortunately I think he will. If we play 352 with Emerson our only right sided outlet, the former betting man in me would back a 0-0 or even a 1-0 win for Frankfurt. He'll do nothing as per going forward (and he's been **** defensively of late as well) whilst Frankfurt could easily then double up on Perisic to prevent him crossing which will just result in a congested mess in the middle where one of our CMs (or Kane) has to make something happen and personally I think Frankfurt will find it too easy to defend against us. If Emerson starts we might as well play 343 and just hope the front three can do something. We have to win tomorrow, anything less and our hopes of qualifying will take a huge battering - and it'll be embarrassing if we don't qualify from this group.
Agree with this. I think what might be in our favour is that we’re at home and Frankfurt also need a win here, given the situation in the group. The away game was a cagey affair for a number of reasons but I think this one might be a bit more open. Both of us need a win. But yeah, in an ideal world Doherty starts tomorrow and Spence at the weekend. But I don’t hold out much hope, it’s likely we’ll see Emerson.
Doherty needs minutes after a long layoff, he didn’t do badly at the weekend so I’ll be annoyed if Conte plays Emerson ahead of him tomorrow.
I'd like to see Harry given a bit of a rest. He isn't performing at his best. I'd go with a front 3 of Son, Richi and Lucas . Lucas will only manage 60 minutes which would be perfect for Harry then to come on.
Yep, couple journos have confirmed it. Absolutely baffles me. 343 with Richarlison in for Bissouma and Lenglet in for Davies.
Emerson, Sessegnon and no doubt Richarlison will be stuck out at RW… Sometimes feels like we’re deliberately trying to lose games.
On a side note, there are a lot of tickets available for tonight's game. Think that the club have got the pricing wrong for the CL games. Too much money considering the financial situation.
