I wonder if the fact that our stadium capacity doesn't match some of our rivals - the clubs targeting Europe - will be seen by our mega rich owners as an issue that needs addressing.
It's already being addressed and has been for the last 6months - shall we say work (already) in progress
Have the club actually bought the land at Strawberry Place? It's a hell of an assumption to go get architectural plans drawn up if you don't even own the ground you're planning to build on. In addition to that, would the council be able to offer hints to planning permission being granted if they don't own the ground. I'm sceptical. That being said, there is rumours circling that something has happened, and work could start as early as the summer.
I would also add, if something is that far advanced then it would point to why season tickets were so limited if they have to shift all the Gallowgate Season ticket holders to other parts of the ground if it needs large sections being closed off at any time.
anyone can draw up plans and seek to get planning permission on anyone's property as long as they seek permission form the land / property owners first someone tried that with my property during lockdown and didn't seek my permission it got thrown out as I objected to it, having not been notified of the proposal
Okay, that's what I was wanting clarified. I know in one of Stavely's interviews the other day she said they would be continuing to work with Newcastle Council to find a way to increase capacity.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on renaming the stadium? Seems likes it’s an avenue they are exploring but unlike under previous owner it will involve consultation with the fans and I would assume will only go ahead once it’s right. I’d be ok with Aramco St James Park I guess or something along those lines but none of this St James Park @ Twatty Bollocks Arena or whatever it was last time round. If we can stay where we are, increase capacity by 10k-15k perhaps and generate a **** tonne of moooolah by some clever yet subtle commercial renaming etc etc then bring it on. The more ammo we have to destroy the Big 6 the better!
Renaming SJP doesn't feel right to me. I do get that it's about generating revenue (whereas Ashley just flogged his own brand for free). But what format of name change could truly work and keep most fans happy? There will be divided opinions. Using Cronemeister's example, how many on here would be happy with Aramco St James Park? I know fans would drop the Aramco, but every mention on TV, websites, newpapers etc. would be legally obliged to use the full name. IF it were a true new build, offsite, then fair enough - like Man City did with the Etihad & Arsenal with Emirates.
I guess Aramco St James Park is at least less ****ty than Reading's Madejski Stadium becoming the Select Car Leasing Stadium. WTF.
